yeah i know, kinda lame of me but if you haven't read it, i advise you to check it out (or for a summary, go to the bios) because the first episode of this story deals alot with the sinnoh version, so yeah.

I'm back.

First episode:

Chapter 1: Fresh start in Johto!

Episode 1: The Johto Region

Nick and Ian sat on the boat that was making its way to the johto region, where Nick planned on earning eight new gym badges, aswell as meet a bunch of new pokemon. He only brought along Yanma on his journey, just because it didn’t get a lot of training time during his sinnoh adventure.
Ian was playing with the pokemon outside on the front of the boat. He only brought with him Gabite and Snover, who might be useful during the journey. Thing was, they were polar-opposites, and thus saw each other as rivals. This led to several conflicts during the 2-day trip to Johto.
“But all of this wasn’t enough, and garchomp then used Giga impact, and hit torterra hard, KO-ing it…” The champion battle was all that was on Nick’s mind. His terrible loss was virtually the only thing propelling him to travel to Johto- the chance to get stronger and hopefully re-match Cynthia one day. He missed Torterra, and wished he could bring him along, but the giant turtle pokemon did need a lot of rest, and Nick kind of wanted to start anew, with the exception of Yanma of course.
“Hey Nick, we’re almost there!” Ian said, popping his head into their room. Nick got up, and ran outside in pursuit of Ian.
Nick ran to the front of the boat, only to see land within view. The Johto region looked beautiful, with lush forestry and what looked like a small town on the coast. He smiled at the sight, and then a fire began to blaze in his eyes. “Johto here I come…”

“Ah come on! What did I do now!?” A girl exclaimed when she found out she was in severe trouble with Professor Elm, the head authority on pokeology in the johto region.
“Tangy, you know very well I can’t have my starter pokemon let lose. They aren’t properly trained, and they were freshly caught so they haven’t gotten acclimated to being in their pokeballs, so obviously they would enjoy the freedom.”
“You’re making it sound like they’re slaves.”
“They aren’t. I just need to get them used to their pokeballs so if any trainers happen to not want them out of their pokeballs too often, they might be comfortable.”
“Still sounds like slavery to me.” Tangy frowned at the professor.
“I need them back though; you never know who will come to get their first pokemon!”
“Alright, I’ll go fetch the ‘slaves’ for you, master.” Tangy said, walking off. Elm sighed.
“She’ll never learn, she needs to get out of this place I think…” He said, and then got back to his work.
“Hey come on out Cyndaquil! Where are ya Tododile? Ready or not here I come Chikorita!” Tangy said, calling out to the trees surrounding New Bark Town. After about a half of an hour later she started to give up when she saw a little mouse-like pokemon fall out of the bushes, apparently fighting another rat-like pokemon.
“Cyndaquil!” Tangy said, running to help the innocent fire pokemon. Cyndaquil was caught in a struggle with a pokemon called Rattata. She tried to pry the two pokemon apart, but didn’t want to hurt Cyndaquil, as it was caught in Rattata’s vicious bite.
“Alright then, go Spinda!” She said, throwing a pokeball out into the air. A little confused-looking pokemon came out. “Alright Spinda use dizzy punch on Rattata!” Spinda spun around and then hit Rattata, unlocking its grip on Cyndaquil. “Good job, now are you ok Cyndaquil?” The mouse pokemon moaned, and Tangy got up off her knees and continued the search.

Now after Ian’s belly was once again filled, the two trainers and their three pokemon continued on into New Bark town. “Hey Nick, isn’t this where trainers get their first pokemon?” Nick nodded.
“Yeah, maybe I could get a pokemon here too; I’ll need all the help I can get.”
“Haha maybe…” Ian said, laughing.
“‘I choose the pokemon turtwig!’ Nick finally said, then Rowan gave him the pokeball, a pokedex, and some spare pokeballs.” Nick remembered his first day of his journey, the day he got Turtwig. Just the thought almost brought a tear to Nick’s eye, but he fought it back because he didn’t want to seem too emotional. They reached the lab a few minutes later.
Nick walked in, Ian behind him. They then saw the place was a wreck, and a young-looking man in a lab coat was on his computer viciously hitting individual keys on the keyboard. His hair was ruffled up to point where he looked positively insane. His coat was wrinkled in a few places, and his glasses were tilted to a terrible angle. Nick walked up to him.
“Sir?”
“WHAT DO YA WANT CAN’T YA SEE I’M BUSY!?!?” He screamed at Nick. Noticing what he just said, Professor Elm put his glasses back in their correct position, then stood up out of his chair. “Oh! I’m so sorry my boy, just a little stressed out right now.”
“A little stressed?” Ian said, sarcastically. Elm ignored the comment and looked back at Nick.
“I’m Professor Elm, head of the lab in New Bark Town. Now, what can I do for you…?”
“Nick. And this is my friend Ian. I came hoping to start my journey here in Johto with Ian and my Yanma.”
“Wait…you want one of my rare starter pokemon when you already have a pokemon?” Nick nodded. “Well, you see, I’m not allowed to give you one if you already have a pokemon.”
“Oh…ok then.” Nick said. “C’mon Ian, let’s go…wait, Professor Elm, do you happen to know where the first gym is in Johto?”
“Violet City, just reach Cherrygrove city and go north, you’ll reach violet city in no time.” Nick thanked him, then the two set out of the lab and onto Violet City…
…when suddenly Nick found himself on the ground and on top of him was a little mouse pokemon, who suddenly ignited a flame on its back in fear, scaring Nick, who began to panic. Then Cyndaquil was lifted off of him by a young girl.
“Oh! I’m sooo sorry! Cyndaquil just got scared by the collision. And I’m sorry for running into you like that, you see this pokemon was lost and Elm sent me to find him, aswell as two other pokemon, who can’t be found for some reason.”
A little overwhelmed by all this information, Nick got up and felt his head, trying to caress it from hitting it on the ground so violently.
“It’s alright; I’ve collided like that before.” Nick said, staring at Ian.
“Whaaat?! That was an accident!” Nick laughed, as did the girl.
“My names Tangy by the way, and like I said I couldn’t find the other pokemon for Professor Elm.”
“We could help you, that is if you need it.” Ian offered.
“That would be great! The other two are called Tododile and Chikorita, water and grass types respectively. If any of you find them that would be a big help to me.” Ian then rushed off screaming “Tododile! Tododile!” and accidentally running into a tree.
“Hey, go Gabite and snover! Let’s find those pokemon!” Ian said, commanding his pokemon to search around in the trees with him.
“They couldn’t have gotten far, right?” Nick asked.
“No, not really. They ran off only about an hour ago.” Tangy said. Suddenly, out came a little green pokemon with a leaf on its head. “Whoa! Chikorita you came back!” Tangy said, then as she reaching down to grab it, Chikorita whipped her in the face. “Ow!!” She said, holding her hands to her face.
“You ok?” Nick asked.
“I’m fine…” Tangy replied. Nick then sent out Yanma to capture Chikorita.
“Yanma use ancient--” Tangy then told Nick to stop, because he might hurt Chikorita.
“They aren’t used to battle yet, and are still babies, so please try not to hurt them.” Tangy warned. Nick commanded Yanma to grab Chikorita without hurting it. Yanma obeyed its trainer and then swooped down and lifted Chikorita into the air, and putting it on its back for a quick ride.
“Tododile where the heck are you!?” Ian screamed out, with no luck. Gabite used dragon claw to repel a few pokemon that came after it, and eventually found a little blue pokemon running at it. “GABITE NO!” But it was too late: Gabite had slashed at Tododile, causing it to fall to the ground. The harsh blow left a few teeth knocked out, aswell as quite a few bruises. Hearing the scream, Nick and Tangy ran over to see what happened. They found Gabite and Ian crouching over a terribly injured Tododile.
“Ian what’d you do!?” Nick said, running over to the trio.
“It was Gabite, I told him not to at the last second, but still nothing.” Ian sighed, “Will he be better?”
“If we get him back to the lab in time, he will.” Tangy said expectantly. The trio ran back to the pokemon center to tell Elm that they have rescued the starter pokemon.
“Brilliant kids! You brought them back! Now, let me just put them back into their pokeballs…” Elm said, and then put the three balls into a little chamber, “so that they can heal back to perfect health.” A couple of seconds later the balls were finished healing.
“Well, Ian and I better get going now…” Nick said, and just as they were turning around to leave, Tangy stopped them.
“Would it be alright if I could umm…go with ya? I’ve always wanted to travel and everything.”
“Sure, why not? It’d be great to have people come along with us.” Nick said, smiling. Ian nodded in agreement.
“And…Professor Elm…can I have a pokemon to carry along?” Tangy asked.
“But you already have a pokemon of your own…”
“Yeah, but I found them also…unlike you who just sent me to find them…” Tangy said.
“She has a point sir.” Ian butted in.
“Alright! Fine then, take whichever one you want, but only one!”
“Yeah, and let my friends get one too…”
“But…”
“They helped me. They deserve part of the reward…” Tangy exclaimed. Nick and Ian nodded aswell.
“Gah! Alright then, just take them.” Elm said, weeping. “My hard-caught pokemon…whatever.” He said, getting back to his desk. Tangy took chikorita’s pokeball and opened it, to reveal a little grass-type pokemon with a leaf on its head. Nick took Tododile, and Ian chose Cyndaquil.
“Sweet, alright guys, our first stop- Violet city, and my first gym badge…” Nick said, running out the door. But just as he ran out, he ran into someone, and once again fell backwards, this time the person landed on him aswell…

Episode 2: Rival Nikki and the changing Eevee!

Nick fell to the ground, and on top of him was this young girl. Her hair was bright blonde, and from the looks of it, she seemed incredibly short. She wore a blue striped cap that covered most of the hair atop her head. She looked pretty, Nick thought, but he shook his head to get the thought out of his head, and make it look like he was recovering from the crash.
“Oh my…are ya ok?” The blonde girl asked, a little worried, “Sorry, I was running in to get my starter pokemon.”
“You’re out of luck Nikki.” Tangy said, “We just grabbed all of them.” The girl named Nikki stomped her foot on the ground, a little angry. Nick got up off the ground, and was right- Nikki was short.
“It’s ok; I’ve been through it several times already.” Nick then glared at both Ian and Tangy.
“Haha. Suffered head injuries? Nice…my name’s Nikki by the way.”
“Nick. And sorry we took your pokemon…I’m starting in the Johto too.”
“Ah. It’s ok; I already have two pokemon, but don’t tell elm that, he’ll freak out.” Nikki said, winking.
“Yeah, anyways…”
“Hey, haven’t seen you from around these parts. You live in New Bark Town?”
“No. I come with my friend Ian from the Sinnoh region.”
“Oh! Wait, your name is Nick? The Nick? The one who lost to champion Cynthia?” Nick nodded, looking down again. “Oh…well, it was an exciting battle! You did well; Cynthia was just a teensy bit better.”
“Yeah, that’s why I’m here: to get stronger and hopefully re-challenge Cynthia one day.”
“Good to have your goals straight. I just want to become stronger and just have an adventure. I Dunno why though, I just do. It’ll be exciting!”
“Hyper aren’t’cha?” Nick replied. Nikki nodded excitedly, as if high on sugar.
“She’s always like that, Nick.” Tangy said laughing.
“Hey! Wanna battle? Bet I could beat ya.” Nikki said, winking again. “Two-on-two, Whadda say?”
“Couldn’t back down from that.” Nick said, running into a small grass patch nearby and throwing out his pokeball. “Tododile let’s do this!” Nikki then rushed after Nick and threw out a pokeball of her own.
“C’mon out ledyba! Let’s use comet punch!” The little ladybug pokemon flew straight at Tododile and started jabbing it at lightning-speed. “I love ladybugs Nick, and thus have trained my Ledyba to a good level. It’ll be hard to beat.”
“Alright then, ever the more challenging. Tododile use tackle!”
“Nu uh! Ledyba use tackle! Full thrust!” Ledyba then flew at Tododile, and the two pokemon collided with the same force, and knocked each other in opposite directions, the latter taking more damage. Nick clenched his fist, and then ordered Tododile to bite onto Ledyba, and Tododile luckily was fast to grab onto the ladybug before it could recover.
“Ledyba use supersonic!” Nikki screamed happily. Ledyba then emitted a horrible screeching sound that forced Tododile to let go of it, and also confusing the little crocodile pokemon. “Now finish it off with a comet punch!” Nikki yelled out victoriously. Ledyba obeyed the command and started jabbing at the confused Tododile at a fast pace, and finally knocking it out with an uppercut to the jaw. Tododile flew backwards in front of Nick, who then put it back into its pokeball.
“Good job buddy, you did alright for your first battle. Now here comes Yanma!”
“Ooohhh…” Nikki was excited now, “Yanma now eh? This’ll be interesting to see. Ledyba use supersonic!”
“Sonicboom to counteract ledyba now yanma!” nick ordered. Yanma then launched a wave of sonic sound at Ledyba, who let out a screeching sonic sound. Both attacks only made it halfway to the opponent, as they both collided into the other.
“Alright then let’s get physical with this! Use comet punch!”
“Yanma, ancientpower on ledyba now!” While ledyba flew up at Yanma, it was bombarded with rocks bigger than it was.
“You’re tough ledyba! Use comet punch on the rocks!” Ledyba then ran right through the rocks with its fists, and eventually got up close to Yanma, who used a sonicboom right in front of it, sending it backwards and into the ground hard. “Agh, return Ledyba. Go Eevee!” Nikki said, sending out a little brown and white fluff ball. “Let’s show this sinnoh champ what we’ve got! Use endure!”
“Yanma this should be easy- use ancientpower!” But the rocks didn’t defeat Eevee. “What? Alright, use sonicboom!”
“Eevee use substitute!” The sonic sound didn’t hurt Eevee, only the substitute. “Now use last resort!” Eevee then ran at Yanma, jumping into the air and then driving it into the ground, wings first, and defeating it.
Nick looked in shock at how quickly his Yanma was taken down by a little Eevee. “Return Yanma, you did well. Good battle Nikki…”
“You did alright too…but looks like I beat the almost-sinnoh champ.” Nikki winked once more, and then walked off. Nick looked at Yanma’s pokeball. He then sighed and put it back into his pocket. Tangy and Ian walked up to him.
“Hey dude, she looks tough, but ya almost beat her.”
“Yeah Nick, she’s always beaten me before. I envy her power and battling style.”
“Yeah, I almost beat her Ian. And I wish I could just figure out her style and be able to beat her with a well-thought out plan. But she’s just unpredictable like that I suppose.”
“Well, let’s hope she’s taking the gym challenge like you are so you may see her again for a re-match.” Ian said, hopeful. Nick nodded, and then looked in the direction Nikki had headed.
“Well, it’s off to Violet city, right?” His friends nodded, and they then walked off out of New Bark Town and onto their johto journey.

Episode 3: Sentret’s mail route 29

Nick, Tangy, and Ian walked through the forest that was going to lead them to Cherrygrove city, the first stop before the trek to Violet City. The forest was long, repetitive, and most importantly- dense.
“UGHH! This is taking forever! Where’s the action!?” Tangy said, whining now. Nick and Ian smiled to each other.
“Tangy, this is how it’ll be for a long time…it takes a little getting used to, but its fine eventually.” Nick assured.
“Alright, because this is kinda boring ya know? I mean we’re just walking…” She said, complaining. They continued walking.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, Nick tripped onto the ground, and turned around to see a little rodent running low to the ground. It was brown and tan colored, with stripes on its tail and back. Nick got up and ran after it.
The little ferret-like thing was quite fast for such a small thing. Nick tried to grab onto it, but didn’t succeed and ended up falling onto the ground again. “Go yanma! Let’s grab that pokemon! Use sonicboom!”
“Stop it!!!” Someone yelled out. “Sentret turn around and use iron tail on the sonicboom!” The little ferret pokemon jumped into the air and reflected the sonicboom back in Yanma’s face. “Don’t hurt sentret please.” The man said, “It’s on a mail route ok?”
“Mail route?” Ian asked. The man nodded.
“Correct. This sentret is my mail carrier. It sends mail between Cherrygrove city and new bark town, and is very good at its job. Sorry if he got in your way, but it is always like that: blind to virtually everything else except its mission.”
“Wow…that’s pretty cool.” Tangy commented. The sentret looked up at them, and growled especially at Nick.
“Well then Sentret, I guess you’re a little mad aren’t you?” Sentret gave Nick a dirty look, then ran off into the forest. The mail man looked at them.
“Hey guys, want to come with me to the post office? I could show ya around and whatnot.”
“Sure why not?” Nick said, looking in the direction sentret had gone. He returned Yanma to its pokeball and followed the mail man to the post office which wasn’t too far away and closer to Cherrygrove city fortunately.
The post office was a little building painted white with blue stripes covering the top of the walls. It had a little sign next to a door in the middle of the front side that said, “Open 24 hours”.
“We have stationed ourselves outside of Cherrygrove city so we could remain independent from other businesses, and simply be a unique group.” The mail man said as they walked in.
“Well, normally post offices don’t hire Sentret’s to do their work for them.” Ian stated, “I’ve personally never seen a sentret before, nor have I seen a pokemon work for a post office, so this is all pretty cool to me. They don’t have either in the Sinnoh Region.”
“Oh? You come from Sinnoh?” Nick and Ian nodded. “Well when I saw the Yanma I had figured maybe you are residents of Johto, but I suppose not.”
“Haha…no, I found Yanma in the Sinnoh region. They live there too, and Yanma has been with me ever since.” Nick said, prideful of his yanma.
“That’s pretty cool. Say, Yanma could work here if you want. We’d keep it in tip-top shape.” The mail man proposed.
“No. I’ll never give up Yanma, not for anything. He’s a strong pokemon that can do wonders with me, and he’s my friend. I can’t give up friends.”
“Oh…I’m only asking though, its fine.” The mail man looked a little down, but he quickly recovered just as Sentret returned. “Sentret! Good job boy.” The mail man then got onto his knee to pet Sentret on the head and give him a poke treat. Sentret smiled, then looked at Nick and his happiness completely faded. “Oh Sentret, don’t be so mad at Nick, he didn’t do anything wrong…” Sentret growled at Nick, then ran off into another room.
Nick sighed. “Well, we better get going ya know, I got a gym battle to attend to.” The trio began to walk out of the post office when the Mail man stopped them.
“Hey, I have something to ask of you.”
“Hmm?” Nick said, looking at the mail man skeptically.
“First, where is your gym battle?”
“Violet city.”
“Ohohoh! That’s perfect! Could you take Sentret with you on your journey to goldenrod city? It needs to hop onto a train bound for Saffron city in the Kanto region in 2 weeks. Can you get it there?”
“Sure why not? It’ll be fun to have the little booger with us.” Nick laughed.
“Good. Because Sentret isn’t strong enough to take on the pokemon near there, and I’m no trainer. Plus I need to run this place. It’d be great, and I’ll pay you greatly.” The mailman called for Sentret, who came out and grabbed onto his leg. “I need you to go with Nick to goldenrod city, because you need to catch a train to saffron city in two weeks, and considering goldenrod city has a gym there I’m sure Nick will be heading there eventually. Got that?” Sentret growled at Nick, who laughed back. “I have his ticket paid for and everything. Plus it has a letter to carry. Whatever you do DON’T lose it, nor read it. Top secret information.” The mailman gave Nick Sentret’s pokeball, and clasped his hand on it. “Good luck.” He said. Nick returned Sentret to its pokeball, and then he left with Tangy and Ian.
“That was fun now wasn’t it?” Nick said, “Got a new friend, and we’re almost to Cherrygrove city.”
“Yeah, that was fun Haha…” Tangy said, laughing with each step she took. Our heroes could now see Cherrygrove city off in the distance, as the sun began to set over the horizon…

“Master, they took the pokemon…” A scratchy voice said.
“Good. I expect the sentret here in two weeks tops.” Another crackly voice entered into the telephone.
“It will. Trust me…” The mail man said, looking out the window and watching Nick and his friends walk towards Cherrygrove city…

Episode 4: Cherrygrove emergency! Rival appears!

Nick, Tangy, and Ian reached Cherrygrove city, one step closer to Nick’s first Johto league gym battle. But just as they got into town they heard screaming. They ran to the sight of such, and saw a person running out with what seemed to be a torterra-like pokemon lumbering behind.
“Venusaur, frenzy plant!” The shady character shouted. The pokemon called venusaur then shot giant spiky vines out of the ground and used it as a wall to stop the policemen and their Growlithe army.
“Growlithe, use ember on the vines!” The little fire attacks had no effect whatsoever on the vicious vines, each of which slapped the little fire dogs away like they were pieces of lint. The shady character smirked, and then commanded venusaur to use solarbeam on the Growlithe. Within a few seconds the solar power was charged up and the police force was wiped out.
“Woah. That’s one tough pokemon.” Ian commented. Nick watched as the venusaur destroyed the authority in a matter of seconds. The shady guy then turned around to run off, venusaur slowly following.
Nick and his friends ran over to the policemen, who were suffering from severe injuries.
“Looks like Nurse Joy will be very, very busy…” Ian commented.
“He…he…took our pokemon.” A policeman said, trying his hardest to speak. “Get…him…before…he gets…away…” Then he collapsed. Nurse Joy ran out with her Chansey to help all these innocent policemen. Nick ran after the boy and his venusaur, who lumbered barely behind its trainer.
“STOP! Who do you think you are!?” Nick shouted at the shady boy. He turned around, revealing his face and bodily features. He didn’t look much older than 12 years old, and he had striking-red hair, and wore a black sweater above a pair of dark blue jeans. He looked at Nick, and smiled.
“I’m taking Pokemon, hopefully they’re strong, if not, then well…” He said, shrugging. “Names Silver by the way, and who’re you…?”
“Nick. Give back the pokemon.”
“Ok Nick, how’s about this. I’ll choose 3 pokemon from this bag. If any of them can beat your pokemon in a battle, I’ll keep them and give back the back to you and your little friends got it?”
“WHO’RE YOU CALLING LITTLE?!” Ian and Tangy screamed simultaneously. “Nick, crush this little wimp!!” Ian said.
“Yeah, he doesn’t look too strong.” Silver said, “This’ll be easy.” Silver pulled out a pokeball from the bag. “Go!” Out came a poliwag.
“Alright then, c’mon out Sentret!” Nick said, sending out his ferret pokemon. “Sentret lets start this off with a quick attack!” Sentret sped at Poliwag and quickly ran into it, knocking it into the trunk of a nearby tree.
“Poliwag, use hypnosis!” Poliwag then started swirling the black line on its torso in a hypnotic pattern, and well enough to catch Sentret’s eye.
“Sentret don’t give in to it! Use quick attack!” Sentret tried to resist it, and when it used quick attack it gave a negative after effect because the closer it got, the more powerful hypnosis became. Sentret then fell asleep right in front of Poliwag.
“Poliwag finish off weakling number one with a water gun attack!” Silver commanded.
“POLLLLLEEEEEEEEEWAG!” The little tadpole pokemon shot a jet of water at the sleeping Sentret, forcing it across the hard-cement ground. Nick looked in shock at how beaten up Sentret was.
“Sentret return. Go Tododile! Use scratch on it now!”
“Poliwag dodge it and use tail whip!” Tododile then ran at its water opponent and was about to dig its sharp nails into poliwag’s flesh, but the tadpole pokemon was able to dodge at the last second and whack Tododile in the side of the face with a tail whip attack. “Now use water gun to finish it off!” Silver gave the final command and his water type blasted water out of its tiny mouth, and surprisingly KO-ed Tododile in one hit.
“Tododile...return. Alright, now go Yanma!” Nick said, throwing out his last pokeball.
“Yanma? Pfft…that is an incredibly weak pokemon. It doesn’t learn any useful moves. Poliwag use hypnosis on it!”
“Yanma blockade the hypnosis with an ancientpower attack!” Yanma then began to throw rocks at the little tadpole, disabling the hypnosis in the process. “Now use sonicboom and defeat poliwag!” Yanma once again didn’t fail nick; it was able to come up close and launch poliwag flying back into its pokeball with one swing of its tail.
“Poliwag, you were pitiful. Alright, go pokeball!” Out of Silver’s second pokeball was a little purple pokemon with a horn almost as big as its head and little beaver teeth jutting out of its mouth. “Alright, Nidoran use poison sting!”
“Send it flying back with an air slash yanma!” Both attacks collided, with air slash proving to be the victor in this round, and sending nidoran’s fire right back at it. “Now hit it with a bug buzz attack!” Yanma started to hum a screeching bug-like sound that nearly broke nidoran’s little eardrums into a million pieces. “Alright, now that it is distracted use ancientpower!” Yanma then pummeled nidoran with sharp rocks that eventually allowed the purple pokemon to give in.
“Nidoran, honestly, a magikarp could have done better than you. Return. Well Nick, look like you got me in a bind. Ah well, venusaur, standby!” Nick was utterly shocked at what Silver was doing now.
“You’re cheating! I would have beaten you if you took another pokemon from the bag!” Silver smirked.
“Its still a pokemon battle Nick. Yanma has proven to be somewhat of a threat to pokemon that have never been trained and thus are weak. Those were useless to me, so now I’m going to test your true skill…champ.” Silver frowned. “Venusaur, let’s finish Yanma off with a frenzy plant!”
“Yanma try and dodge them and then use sonicboom!” The prickly vines shot out of the ground and all aimed at Yanma, who was too slow to dodge all of them. Nick watched as his strongest pokemon available was being thrown around like a dirty rag doll. Yanma then fell to the ground after taking a brutal beating.
“See? Yanma is a weak pokemon. Just like every one of yours. I will keep the pokemon I used in battle, and will be on my way.” Silver said, walking away with Venusaur lumbering at his side.
“Yanma…you were excellent. Venusaur was just a step up.” Nick said, and looked as Silver and venusaur were walking north of Cherrygrove. “So he’s in the johto league too…” Nick assumed.
Yanma also looked, and then at its several bloody wounds. Then, it felt a mix of sadness and anger, and even brought a tear out to face the world…

Episode 5: Mr. Pokemon

After the battle with Silver Nick healed up his pokemon and the trio continued up route 30 on their way to violet city. However, Nick ended up running into a trainer battle with a little boy.
“Hey kid! I challenge you to a pokemon battle! Go Rattata!” The little 10-year old boy said, throwing out a pokeball containing a little rat-like pokemon.
“Alright kid, I’ll battle ya! Tododile I choose you! Scratch on the Rattata!” Tododile quickly ran up and scratched Rattata in the eyes, blinding the little pokemon.
“No! Rattata return! Alright go caterpie!”
“A caterpie? Looks kinda like kricketot back in sinnoh.” Nick commented.
“Well Nick, that’s because caterpie is the kanto region’s equivalent to kricketot.” Ian smartly stated. Nick smiled.
“Alright Tododile, let’s go with a bite attack!”
“He doesn’t naturally learn bite until later, nick…” Ian continued, loving the positive reactions he’s getting. However, Nicks next time wasn’t so “positive”.
“IAN! Tododile has teeth. It may not be able to do a full-powered bite attack, but it sure as heck bites, y’know?” Nick said, while Tododile got itself tied in a round of string shot. “AGH! Tododile! Bite your way through it!” Nick commanded to his crocodile pokemon.
“Alright caterpie use tackles before it gets out!” The youngster bellowed to the sky. The worm pokemon ran at Tododile, but was too slow evidently and got tackled full-on. Tododile then leapt into the air and threw down Caterpie, little sand particles flying into the air. The youngster looked at his defeated Pokemon.
“Ok, you beat me kid…” The youngster sadly said, tears rushing down his cheeks. He ran off, not giving Nick a chance to apoligize.
“Wow…he looks really sad. Good job Nick.” Tangy whispered, feeling for the youngster.
“He wanted to battle me, so I gave him a battle.” Nick innocently stated. They continued to walk through the seemingly endless field of trees. Eventually they noticed a brick house sitting atop a hill. It looked like a typical 1850’s house, with a chimney and smoke puffing out of it every couple seconds in a rhythmic motion.
“Looks a little sketchy, don’t ya think Nick?” Tangy said, her voice shivering with every word. Nick, who was just staring at the house, felt a déjà vu moment.
“Feels like I’ve been here before…got a déjà vu, that’s weird.” Nick said, “Let’s go.” The trio slowly crept up to the brick house. As they got closer to the door they noticed it had a welcome sign in the shape of a pokeball, with the whole design and everything. There were little aipom statues at opposite edges near the door, and drifloon-shaped balloons tied to the porch. There was a doorbell in the shape of a little green-colored bird.
“This is weird guys…the owners a pokemon-freak!” Ian said, a little shocked by all of the décor surrounding just the front part of the house. Nick imprinted his finger into the bird-shaped doorbell, emanating a little ringing noise throughout the house.
Moments later a tall elderly man opened the door. “My my, who do we have here?”
“I’m Nick, That’s Ian, and she’s Tangy. We just came to see if anyone was home. There was no real reason for us being here.”
“Now kids, you can’t just go and knock on random people’s houses, you never know if you’re interrupting a meeting or something.” Through this warning he maintained a smile.
“Oh. Sorry were you in a meeting?”
“Lucky for you, no. I was just talking to my old colleague, professor Oak.” Ian suddenly was at the floor groping at the man’s legs.
“Pro-pro-professor Oak!? Ohmygosh ohmygosh ohmygosh!!!! I gotta meet him!!!!” Ian said, seeming really desperate.
“Who’s he?” Nick asked, seeming really stupid asking it. Ian looked at him, apparently very angry now.
“Professor Oak is the head on all Pokemon research in the WORLD! He is very famous, and everyone reveres him for it. How can you NOT know him!?” Ian hit his face with his palm and looked back at the old man. “Can I meet him, please?”
The old man nodded, and walked Ian into the house. Nick and Tangy had no choice but to follow them.
The house looked more modern the deeper they went into it. It bore a kitchen with a metallic silver oven and refrigerator, and a marble white countertop. The living room had nice gold leather sofas. But just like the front porch, most of the room had pokemon-shaped decorations.
“Well who do we have here?” Another old man, much shorter than the first, stood up to greet Ian.
“Professor Oak! I’ve heard so much about you and I’m a big fan!!” Ian exclaimed. The man named Professor Oak smiled warmly.
“Well, it’s always good to see new fans everyday! Where do you come from?”
“I come from the sinnoh region, with my friend Nick. I used to work as a lab assistant until I joined Nick on his pokemon journey.”
“Ohohoh, I’ve heard Rowan talk about you a lot. Both of you, actually. Sinnoh League Champion, eh?” Nick nodded.
“Well, almost…” Nick sighed, looking down at the ground.
“Nick, you were very very close, I think you deserve some sort of recognition. Cynthia hasn’t been that close to losing her spot in quite a long time.” Professor Oak kindly stated, trying to cheer Nick up. “That’s probably why you’re here in Johto I assume?” Nick nodded, raising his head only to do such an action.
“Nick is a very strong trainer though.” Ian said, looking at Nick, “I mean, have you seen his Torterra!?” He was getting excited now.
“Yes, I have. You raised it well Nick. Cynthia’s Garchomp was just one level up on you…Anyways what brings you all to Mr. Pokémon’s home?” Oak asked.
“Mr. Pokemon?” Tangy was baffled, “Who would have such a name?”
“Actually, I would.” The tall old man reminded Tangy. “I know, a bit odd of a name, but I love pokemon. Training, Breeding, Raising, evolving, that’s what makes me happy. To see a Pokemon happy should make you happy, no matter what.”
“So…Nick, do you plan to take the Johto gym challenge?” Professor Oak curiously asked.
“Yeah, Infact we should be getting to Violet city soon.”
“You’re correct. Violet city is just up the road, good luck, I wish you the best.” Both Mr. Pokemon and Professor Oak nodded. Out of the corner of his eye Nick noticed something on the wall. While Ian and Tangy took the attention of the old men, Nick wandered over to the wall where he found a glass-encased badge case. It was open and had 8 different and very foreign badges. Next to it was another set of eight badges, these ones also quite foreign. “Mr. Pokemon was a trainer?” Nick then walked back over to the group, contemplating what he just saw.
The sun was setting over the Johto hills. It orange-yellow glow illuminated the path in which Nick and his friends needed to go to get to Violet City. After saying good-bye to Mr. Pokemon and Professor Oak, the trio walked down the hill and into the beautiful sunset, Nick knowing that he would have to work very hard to get closer to his dream. He saw a different side of Pokemon now, and utilizing the old men’s advice might be the difference between a win and a loss.

Episode 6: Sprouts towering over ya!

Nick, Ian, and Tangy finally reached Violet city, the site of Nick’s very first johto gym battle. However, the Gym leader was out on a special training mission.
“WHAAT!?!!” Nick exclaimed. “This means they’ll be stronger than if we got here earlier!!”
“Well, having a stronger opponent to battle makes you stronger overall.” Tangy said, “Let me battle you, I need some training anyways.” Nick agreed to this, and sent out his Sentret, and Tangy sent out her Spinda. “Alright Spinda let’s use teeter dance!”
“Sentret start us off with quick attack!” Instead, sentret just curled into a ball and fell asleep. “Sentret! Wake up! Bah!” Nick said, switching Sentret for Yanma, who came out and immediately used a sonicboom to disrupt Spinda’s teeter dance. “Alright Yanma use a bug buzz now!” Suddenly the bug pokemon made a loud screeching noise. “Now while Spinda is distracted use ancientpower!” Yanma took the final blow to Tangy’s Spinda, causing it to fall backwards and land flat on its rear.
Then it started to cry loudly.
“Spinda, come here, you did good…” Spinda gave Tangy the evil eye, and then pried itself loose from her grip and ran off. “Come back Spinda!” Tangy ran after Spinda, a little startled at how angry her pokemon was now.
“Ian, c’mon, let’s follow them.” Nick commanded, “Yanma, look for Spinda from the air, and if you find him please tell me.” Nick shouted, and Yanma flew off. Ian threw a pokeball into the air, containing Gabite. “Gabite, go look for Spinda and Tangy, alright? We’ll meet up with you at the pokemon center ok?” Then the two boys ran off, leaving Gabite there.
Spinda stopped in her tracks when she saw a giant tower right in front of her. Just as she was about to run off from the looming fear the tower brought to her mind, an old bald man walked out and saw Spinda about to run away.
“Hey, come here little one.” He said, and Spinda turned around to face him, “You ok youngster?” Spinda lowered it head in shame, “Don’t be ashamed, come here.” He said again. Spinda walked over, cautious of what he might do.
He held Spinda in his arms, “Why don’t I take you back inside, you’re probably an abandoned pokemon, aren’t you?” Then he went back inside to show his fellows the pokemon he found.
“Guys, I found this pokemon out near the front door, it looks abandoned.”
“Li, how many times do we have to say it,” Another old man said, “I understand you want to help pokemon, but you’re just not the best trainer alright? You’re lucky you were able to join the brotherhood of monks here, but honestly; you don’t do anything BUT help them out. You are a true Pokemaniac and we don’t exactly appreciate your training methods. Though, if it makes you happy, we’ll let you keep it. But this is the last one, alright?”
“Shun, I’ll show you. I can train pokemon, and this Spinda will prove it to you, right Spinda?” Li looked down at his newly found Spinda. He smiled.
“Well, the day you train pokemon decently is the day you will beat me Li.” Shun stated. “And you haven’t yet proven to take down any one of my pokemon, so I don’t expect anything more than that for a long time.” Shun then walked off, leaving Li and Spinda alone in the room.
“Spinda, we’ll show him, right?” For the first time since they met, Spinda had smiled. It had found hope elsewhere.
“Spinda!” Tangy yelled out. She couldn’t find Spinda anywhere. She looked over at a tall tower across the street. “Maybe Spindas in there…” She said, running off to seek help.
“Spinda come out here!” Ian said, Nick repeated it, though a little louder. Yanma came back, Gabite sprinting behind. “You found it?”
Yanma nodded in disappointment. Nick stomped the ground, “Where did she go!? Anyways, good job, Yanma. You still did well.” Nick smiled warmly.
“Good job Gabite, return.” Ian said, pulling out his pokeball and sending Gabite back inside. Ian and Nick looked at each other in discontent. They couldn’t help Tangy. However, they saw their friend running towards them.
“What is it?” Nick asked, a little shocked to see her Spinda-less.
“Spinda was taken in by these old bald guys in a tower!” Tangy said, out of breath.
“That’s a bit odd; never see that happening nowadays…” Ian said, trying to lighten the mood. It didn’t exactly work to his satisfaction.
“Anyways we need to get there, and quickly!” Nick said, running off with Tangy. Ian analyzed the situation in his head, and then ran off with the other two.
“Spinda, you have worked hard over the past half hour, and I think you are already strong enough for the trails.” Li said, smiling happily at Spinda, who returned it warmly and just as it began to hug Li, the front door of the tower burst open and Tangy ran inside, now watching her first ever pokemon hugging some stranger.
“Spinda! Wha…wha…what’re you doing?” Tangy said, now depressed by this sudden turn of events.
“Spin-SPINDA!” Spinda yelped back at its trainer. Tangy looked at it, then at Li.
“Who are you?”
“I am Li. I am a monk at the sprout tower, which is this place. I cannot train pokemon very well, so I found this Spinda on the doorstep. It didn’t seem to have a trainer so I took it in to train it myself. It seems to be strong enough already.”
“Wow…that was a mouthful.” Ian said, once again trying to lighten the mood, and once again failing. Tangy walked over to Li.
“I’m sorry for the mishap, but that Spinda is mine. May I please have it back?” Tangy asked politely. Li shook his head in response.
“I’m afraid not. Spinda is mine now. You refused to take good care of it. So now I will succeed you as its trainer. A much better and more experienced one.”
“But I thought you said you couldn’t trainer pokemon very well.” Nick said, finding a loophole in Li’s statement.
“Good point. Fine then. I will battle you, girl. Two on two. If I win, then I keep Spinda. If you win, you keep Spinda.”
“But…I only have one other pokemon with me. Spinda is my second.”
“Looks like you can’t win your pokemon back then.” Li said, “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to prove my worth to my superiors.” Li then walked upstairs with Spinda right by his side.
Tangy now began to cry. She fell to the floor and put her head in her hands, trying to let out every bit of sadness left in her.
“Tangy, c’mon, it’s ok. Maybe Spinda will fail the test and he can give it back to you.” Ian said. Nick then looked at the stairs. Without warning, he quickly ran up them in a pursuit of Li.

“So, Li, you have come to try and prove yourself worthy of the brotherhood of monks. Your test: Beat me.” Shun said, holding a pokeball in his hands, barely visible in the dimly-lit room. Li looked down at Spinda. He crouched low so he was almost eye-level with it.
“Alright, I’m going to use you as my second pokemon, kind of like a trump card against Shun’s pokemon, you alright with that?” Spinda nodded in happiness. Li got back up, standing at full height, which wasn’t too much in reality. “I accept your challenge, Shun. Two vs. Two?”
“Yes. Now, go Bellsprout!” Shun sent out his first pokemon, containing a little vine-like pokemon with a yellow bell for a head.
“Hm. Bellsprout I choose you!” Li also shouted out. The two bellsprouts looked very similar, only Shun’s was a tad bit bigger than Li’s. “Bellsprout use vine whip!”
“Hm. How naïve of you, Li. Bellsprout dodge it and use wrap!” Shun’s Bellsprout locked Li’s in a tight wrap attack, tightening its grip every few seconds. Eventually, Li’s Bellsprout couldn’t take much more of the wrap attack, and fainted on the spot.
“Well, Li? That was a bit quick.” The other monks began to laugh at the results of the first round.
“I’ll show you. Spinda, let’s go!” Li said, as Spinda wobbled over to the battlefield. Shun smirked, which in the dim light made him look much scarier.
Nick ran into the room to se the monks in mid-battle, and he wasn’t alone. Tangy and Ian were slowly walking up the stairs just in time to watch Spinda battle Bellsprout. Tangy looked at Spinda, who used a vicious psybeam attack on the Bellsprout, confusing it like no other.
“Alright Spinda, let’s use dizzy punch and throw it off once again!” Li said, as Spinda wobbled over to Bellsprout and punched it as hard as it could. Bellsprout then started whipping itself with vine whips, until it ended up in defeat.
“Humph. Well, looks like you’re proving yourself finally, Li. But you’ve only beaten one of my pokemon. Victreebell, I choose you!” Shun smiled evilly. “Victreebell, use leaf storm!” Shun commanded. Everyone else was wide-eyed as Victreebell shot leaves out of its bell-shaped head and at Spinda.
“SPINDA! WATCH OUT!” Tangy heard herself say. Without thinking, Spinda dodged the attack. “Now, use psybeam on it Spinda!” Spinda, once again without thought, shot a psychic beam straight at the top of Victreebell’s head, confusing it in the process. “Alright, and finish it off with a dizzy punch attack!” Tangy said, throwing her fist into the air as if she already won. But she didn’t. Victreebell managed to hit Spinda with an acid attack, poisoning the little pokemon.
Spinda collapsed to the ground, writhing in pain as Victreebell was returned to its pokeball. “Looks like I win, Li. You were unable to use Spinda’s power to beat me, but instead simply stood there. You also allowed this young lady here to command it besides yourself, and yet it still lost.” Shun shook his head, and left the dim room.
“I’m so sorry that I got your Spinda into all of this. Looks like I’m a terrible trainer after all.” Li said, slouching and staring at the dark floor.
“You’re not.” Nick said, “Its just a little weird of you taking someone else’s pokemon after they asked for it back and just use it like you did, just so you could get entry into a stupid club like that.”
“You’re right. I’m going off on my own journey to train my pokemon. In fact, I’ll challenge the johto league too, and show those loser monks who’s stronger!” Li said animatedly. Nick smiled approvingly.
“Good. Maybe I’ll see you there. Anyways, I have a gym battle to attend to. Let’s go guys.” Nick said, about to leave with Ian and Tangy. Tangy picked up her poisoned Spinda and the trio walked out of the room, and to the pokecenter before Nick’s first Johto league gym battle.

Episode 7: Falkner’s flyers! Gym battle in the sky!

Tangy looked through the pokecenter window at her Spinda being operated on. Spinda got badly poisoned from that acid attack and nurse joy was working feverishly to get a perfect antidote to give to Spinda.
“I got Spinda into this by using it in battle. And now I don’t even know what’s going to happen. Nick, go battle the gym leader, good luck, I need to stay with Spinda right now.” Tangy said, motioning Nick and Ian out of the room.
“Well, Nick, you ready?” Ian asked, looking up at Nick, because he was short relative to Nick’s height.
“Yeah, a little nervous. I don’t even know what type they’re going to use.”
“Yeah, true, but Yanma will more than likely win the battle for you. It has the most experience by far.” Ian stated in a speculating tone. Nick laughed.
“Yeah, true. And sentret won’t listen to me, and Tododile hasn’t battled too much, so I do have a lot of reason to worry.” Nick said, ending the conversation with a knock on the gym’s door. No one answered. Nick tried knocking again on the stone-hard door.

Still, no answer.

“Maybe he’s gone?” Nick said, looking around. He found Ian walking around to the back of the gym. Then he popped his head from behind the wall and motioned Nick over.
Behind the gym was a young boy with jet-purple hair wearing blue sagging jeans and a white shirt. He looked like he was training bird pokemon.
“So…he trains flying type pokemon…maybe Yanma won’t have a shot at winning.” Nick whispered to Ian. He was still watching the boy with three foreign-looking pokemon.
“Well, Yanma does know ancientpower and sonicboom, so you might have a chance.”
“True…” Nick came out from behind the wall to go talk to the boy. “Hey, I’m Nick from Twinleaf town in the-“
“Stop. You want to challenge me, right?” The boy said in a deep voice. Nick nodded, a little intimidated by the gym leader. “Well, give me a moment, I need to finish my training session.” Nick stopped and watched the leader command one of his bird pokemon to use what looked like aerial ace through a hoop 3 stories high. “By the way, my name is Falkner.” He said, not turning around to look at Nick.

Nick continued to watch the three bird pokemon fly through hoops and other obstacles, hopefully to increase their accuracy in attacks. When Falkner was done, he turned back to Nick and Ian, who were resting in some chairs they found under a flowery umbrella.
“Alright, I’m ready to accept your challenge, Nick. Follow me inside to the gym and we’ll do battle.” Falkner said. Nick followed his opponent into a ceiling-less gym.
“Wouldn’t expect any less from a flying type gym leader.” Nick thought to himself. “This might be a little more difficult than I imagined, with Yanma the only able flyer I have.” Nick thought while he walked over with Ian to the opposing side of the stage. Ian went to sit down in the stands, and called out snover, Cyndaquil, and Gabite to watch the battle with him.
“Alright Nick, it’s a 3-on-3 battle. You do have three pokemon, don’t you?” Nick nodded. “Ok, so now…let’s go Hoppip!” Falkner then sent out a little red ball with green plants sitting atop its head.
“Sentret, c’mon out!” Nick said, sending out his furry little disobeyer. “Sentret, use quick attack!”
“Hoppip use grass knot.” Falkner commanded, and his pokemon tied down Sentret with vines that came out of the ground, “Now use bullet seed!” Hoppip now proved to be a deadly opponent when it launched its fast-moving seeds at Sentret, who responded by going to sleep.
“Hoppip, bullet seed again!” Falkner yelled out. Hoppip obeyed orders, but just as it started firing seeds at sentret, the latter jumped off the ground, breaking the grass knot, and quickly attacking Hoppip, driving it into the hard ground.
“Sentret use fury swipes now!” Nick commanded, and his pokemon finally obeyed him and scratched at Hoppip, who was struggling to fight back now. Falkner looked up at the sky.
“Hoppip, use synthesis!” Much to Nick and Sentret’s surprise, Hoppip started to regain health.
“Alright Sentret, use quick attack while it’s healing!” Nick commanded, and he got his wish. Sentret struck Hoppip square in the face, sending it flying through the gym and hitting Falkner, KO-ed.
“Alright Hoppip, return. I’m surprised so far Nick, but your pokemon can’t necessarily win that easily. Go! Noctowl!” Falkner screamed as he sent out a rather large owl pokemon.
“Let’s keep this winning streak up sentret! Use quick att-sentret no!” Nick yelled out as his pokemon fell asleep.
“Well, looks like I don’t have to force your pokemon to asleep. Noctowl use Dream eater!” Noctowl’s eyes started to glow a bright purple color and just as they shifted colors sentret started to cringe and spasm as its energy was being sapped by the night owl. “Good job now let’s finish it off with a Zen headbutt!” Falkner stated victoriously.
Noctowl opened its wings and sprinted at Sentret, smashing its head into the ferret’s belly, and sending it further towards Nick.
“Return, Sentret. Hmmm…go Tododile!”
“Noctowl use hypnosis!” Falkner commanded.
“Tododile hit Noctowl with a scratch while it’s up close!” Fortunately for Nick, Tododile managed to hit Noctowl in the face before it could use its psychic powers to end yet another round.
Noctowl backed away quickly, then at its trainer’s command shot into the air and tried to regain its sight. Once it did, Falkner commanded his pokemon to strike once more, only this time with aerial ace.
“Tododile try to dodge it!” Nick yelled orders too late; Tododile was already hit and almost down for the count, but it got back up and looked back at Nick. For what seemed to be the first time since Nick chose the crocodile pokemon, the trainer and pokemon seemed to fully understand each other, similar to how Nick was with turtwig.
“Alright Noctowl let’s finish Tododile off! Use Zen headbutt!”
“Tododile wait for it to get closer!” Nick said, and once Noctowl was only feet away from Tododile, Nick yelled another order” Jump onto its back!”
“What!?” Falkner yelled out in surprise.
“Now use scratch!” Tododile turned around and scratched Noctowl in the back of the neck, sending both of them down into the ground.
Tododile rolled off Noctowl just as the giant owl got back up. Both pokemon were tired and waited for their trainer’s to give a command.
Suddenly without an order Tododile ran up at Noctowl and shot a jet of water from its mouth. While it did this it karate kicked Noctowl in the chest, sending it backwards and knocking it out.
“Woah….Tododile what was that?” Nick asked in shock. Then he remembered Buizel. “Oh, that’s water gun! Good job Tododile!” Nick yelled positively to his young pokemon. Tododile returned the compliment with a claw in the air.
“Nick, you’re getting lucky so far, but let’s see how you can deal with my last pokemon. Pidgeotto let’s win this!” Falkner exclaimed, sending out a medium-sized pigeon-like pokemon. “Humph. Pidgeotto use aerial ace and finish Tododile off!” Pidgeotto leapt into the air and came back down twice as fast at Tododile, who barely dodged the attack, giving the bird pokemon an injured beak.
“Tododile let’s try to stay in the game! Use water gun!” The crocodile shot a blast of water at Pidgeotto only to miss and get hit with an aerial ace attack.
“Pidgeotto finish Tododile off with a wing attack!” Tododile couldn’t dodge the attack this time. Pidgeotto hit and won the round with little trouble. “Good job.” Falkner said to his pokemon.
“Tododile you did amazing. Alright Yanma, looks like you’re up!”
“Nick Nick Nick…You’re more than likely not going to win this battle. Bug versus flying? Some sinnoh champ-wannabe. Pidgeotto let’s make this quick! Use aerial ace!”
“Yanma time to prove yourself! Slow it down with sonicboom!”
Both Pokemon began to attack. Pidgeotto was stopped in its tracks by a sonic wave emanating from Yanma, but didn’t go down and instead used wing attack.
“Yanma hit again with sonicboom!” Nick commanded. He paused Pidgeotto’s advance once more, but his luck would soon fade away.
“Pidgeotto use aerial ace!” Falkner screamed.
“Yanma dodge it!” Yanma wasn’t able to dodge the on coming bird this time: Pidgeotto hit and drove Yanma into the ground, and flew back up to take an aerial view of the damage done.
Yanma tried to get up, but couldn’t find the energy to. “Yanma c’mon you can do this!” Yanma looked over at Nick, then at Falkner, who was already preparing to end the battle by packing up. Then it looked at Pidgeotto, who seemed to be thinking about other matters.
The bug pokemon then screamed as loud as it could, also known as the attack bug buzz. After hearing this screeching sound Pidgeotto flew around frantically to somehow get away from the sound. Yanma then took advantage and rammed into Pidgeotto’s side, knocking it higher into the air.
“Alright Yanma!” Nick said throwing his fists into the air, “Use ancientpower!”
Without hesitation, Yanma used the power of air to throw rocks from the ground straight at Pidgeotto. Then Nick commanded one last attack, which was sonicboom.
Yanma hit Pidgeotto in the face with its tail and a bit of sonic energy, basically knocking the pigeon pokemon out for the count. Falkner returned his last pokemon, still in shock from Yanma’s outstanding performance.
“Nick…” He said, walking up to Nick and Yanma, “That was a great battle. You are certainly worthy of this badge. Even when you seemed to be down you got right back up and showed what you really were made of. Here is the zephyr badge.” Falkner said, handing Nick a gray and red wing-shaped badge.
“Yeah Yanma, we got the zephyr badge!” Both trainer and pokemon smiled at each other, and turned around only to see Tangy, Cyndaquil, and Spinda run up and hug both of them. “When’d you get here?” Nick said, a little shocked to see his friend.
“Right when Yanma started battling Pidgeotto.”
“Oh, alright. Well, I can see Spinda is feeling better.”
“A little bit. She shouldn’t be exerting much energy anyways, right Spinda?” The panda pokemon looked up at its trainer and smiled innocently.
“Hey Nick great job!” Ian commented, “You guys were both great!”
“Thanks Ian.”
“Anyways, Nick” Falkner continued, “The next gym is in Azalea town, south from here. I wish you luck.”
“Thank you, Falkner.” Nick said and began to head off with his friends down south towards Azalea town.

Chapter 2: Bugged to the core
Episode 1: Mareep’s burning passion!

Nick, Ian, and Tangy walked out of violet city on their journey to the next gym, which resides in azalea town at the southern tip of the johto region.
“Nick, we’ve got a long ways until we reach azalea town,” Ian said examining the town map he stole from an old guy in the pokemon center.
“Well, let’s try to get there as quickly as we can, alright?” Nick responded, peering over at the map aswell, “Say, where’d you get that?”
“Ummm…” Ian began, “Nowhere?”
“Suuure you did…” Nick said, leering at Ian. “Whatever, where do you think we should stop? It’s getting a bit late anyways.” Nick said as he looked up at the bright orange and pink sky off in the distance.
“This place looks good.” Tangy said, pointing to a ledge nearby that gave a great view of the land below it.
“Wow Tangy, good spot!” Ian commented after seeing the once in a lifetime sunset. “Alright team, we’ll camp here for the night then!” Ian said, dropping his bags onto the ground and then throwing out his three pokeballs so that Gabite, Snover, and Cyndaquil could stretch and play around.
“Hey Ian, you wanna have a battle?” Nick asked his friend as Tododile was sent out of its pokeball.
“How about this: I and Ian double battle you!” Tangy suggested, sending out her Chikorita, who looked ready for a good challenge. Ian nodded in agreement and called his Cyndaquil over.
“We’re going to take Nick on, alright Cyndaquil? This shouldn’t be too hard.” Ian said with a chuckle after his sentence. Nick then also sent out Yanma.
“Haha, alright then, let’s get this battle started!” Nick said, “Tododile let’s start this and use water gun on Cyndaquil! Yanma we have the advantage so use Air slash on Chikorita!”
“Cyndaquil jump into the air and use tackle on Yanma!”
“Chikorita c’mon let’s win! Go after Tododile now!”
Cyndaquil slid under the jet of water aimed at it and kicked Tododile, then leapt into the air and hit Yanma in the side, forcing both of them towards the ground. Ian then commanded for Cyndaquil to use ember, which would have hit Yanma had the bug pokemon not dodged the oncoming flames by scurrying across the ground away from the fire and quickly flying into the air.
Tododile grabbed Chikorita just as the grass type was about to ram into it and threw Tangy’s pokemon over at the back of Cyndaquil, who fell over in pain from Chikorita’s weight.
“Alright Yanma, use ancientpower on Chikorita and Cyndaquil and finish them off!” Nick yelled out victoriously.
But just as Yanma was getting ready to aim at its opponents, a streak of lightning flew out of the forest nearby, and as it got closer it started hitting everything in its path.
The source of the lightning was revealed to be a little sheep-like pokemon. And the mysterious sheep ran right through the battlefield, shocking both Tododile and Yanma, nearly knocking them out from the intensity of the electric attacks.
“What the…?” Nick looked in shock as he watched the sheep run around in outrage, emitting waves of electricity from its body. Then he looked at his pokemon. “C’mon Yanma! Try and stop that pokemon!”
Yanma got up and flung rocks at the sheep, trying to stop the electric bolts from possibly hurting more people. The sheep managed to dodge all of them.
“Alright Tododile let’s try dousing it! Use water gun!”
The crocodile attempted spitting water at the sheep, but it seemed to have little effect.
“Ian, what should we do? This sheep could kill us!” Nick said in panic.
“Alright Gabite let’s go! Use dragon claw on that pokemon!” Gabite ran at the sheep but didn’t take much damage from the electric sparks due to its ground type heritage. It then slashed at the sheep’s source of energy- the fleece. Gabite then backed off once the electric attacks had stopped, and received an applaud from the other pokemon and Ian.
Tangy ran over to look at the injured Mareep. It was emitted smoke from its fur and had a severe burn mark where Gabite had torn off part of the fleece. When Tangy tried to caress it Mareep let out an ear-piercing squeal.
“Mareep it’s okay! I’m not trying to hurt you…” She said in a calm voice, “Now, let’s see what happened…” She continued to examine the burn. “Guys, do any of you know how to cure a burn?”
“Put ice on it maybe?” Ian responded with a question. “Snover use powder snow on mareep’s burn!” All of the sudden snover suddenly made the environment much colder. Then it moved over to the sheep and aimed its arm at the burn. Suddenly snow began to emit from the tips of its “fingers” and fall onto the burn. Tangy began to watch as the snow melted and the burn seemed to go disappear a little.
“Mareep we’re gonna give you some resting time, ok?” Tangy said as she got her blanket from her bag and wrapped Mareep up in it. “Guys, I think we should just go to bed. We’ve all had a rough day anyways.” She said as she lay down next to Mareep and Chikorita, who both immediately fell asleep from a long day.
Nick stayed up a little longer. Ian had fallen asleep face-down on his sleeping bag, and it was a surprised that he was still breathing the way he looked when he was asleep. Nick looked over and saw snover and Cyndaquil imitating him, with Gabite sleeping on mareep’s side, on the other was Tangy with Chikorita and Spinda lying beside her.
He looked down at Yanma, Tododile, and Sentret, who were all sleeping side-by-side. It was times like this that he felt nostalgic about his old team. But he believed he needed to start over and meet new pokemon, because using the same old pokemon in battle got boring after awhile, not that his pokemon were boring, that is. But he missed them like no one else.
He also missed Haruka, and Missy. He missed sinnoh, and his mom and sister. Johto is such a foreign region. It seems different, and it is different. Nick took the zephyr badge out of his pocket and looked at it.
“I earned this badge…and now there isn’t going back. I’m going to get the other 7 and I’m going to beat the johto league. And I’m going to beat Cynthia, too.” He whispered to himself. Nick walked over in between Tangy and Ian and lay down, only to quickly fall asleep.
The group all woke up to what sounded like an earthquake. Nick leapt up and sent Yanma to go and see what was going on. Suddenly the bug pokemon came scurrying back hysterically, just as a giant creature burst through the edge of the forest.
Nick looked up at a giant snake-like beast hurrying towards them. It stopped right in front of Tangy and Mareep, and lowered its head so that it was looking straight into their eyes. It then belted out an ear-piercing screech, making Tangy and Mareep fly across the cliff towards the edge.
As they approached the edge of the cliff, Tangy threw Mareep away from the edge as she got closer. She grabbed the edge of the rock, which was keeping her between life and death. Nick ran over and tried to pull her up, and yelled out for Tododile to use water gun on the Steelix. He managed to get Tangy back onto the cliff, and then ordered Yanma to use Sonicboom at the giant snake.
Both attacks seemed to do nothing to the Steelix, and in retaliation it whacked both Yanma and Tododile with one swing of its tail. Ian ordered Cyndaquil to use ember and snover to use razor leaf, but both attacks in the end were a failure.
The Steelix was moving in on the group. Nick tried to think of some way to stop the advance. “Hey guys! We need to get on to the other side of Steelix!” Nick said as he grabbed Tododile and ran for it, jumping over Steelix’s tail as Ian and Cyndaquil ran under the tail just as it slammed onto the ground.
Tangy grabbed Mareep, who was scared to death of the giant Steelix, and Chikorita, who tried tossing sharp leaves at it, but to no avail, and with Spinda by her side ran around the opposite side of Steelix as her friends did. The whole group managed to make it onto the other side as Steelix was turning around.
“Hey, where’s Gabite?” Ian asked frantically. The group looked around, but no Gabite.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, they saw Steelix crash onto the ground, with Gabite coming from behind. Ian jumped for joy as he saw his proud dragon pokemon stand on Steelix’s head triumphantly.
Then the steel pokemon lifted its head in an agile motion that sent Gabite flying into the air. The dragon pokemon then dove down at Steelix’s head. Just as they were going to collide Steelix launched out a hyper beam, halting Gabite in its tracks. The dragon pokemon fell down onto the ground, badly injured. Ian ran over to Gabite, almost to the point of crying.
Seeing this, Mareep jumped out of Tangy’s arms and ran up to Steelix, who looked down at it with an evil glare. Mareep then started to glow a bright yellow, and thunder rained down, attracted to the little sheep. Mareep looked up at Steelix, and then used a powerful thunderbolt attack that was strong enough to take down the most powerful water pokemon.
Unfortunately, Steelix is a ground type pokemon.
The attack did little damage to the giant steel pokemon. Steelix shot its head down towards Mareep, but when it did Gabite got back up and ran in front of Mareep, grabbing Steelix’s face and protecting both of them. Gabite then looked the giant snake in the eye, and blasted out a flamethrower attack, causing Steelix to fling its head towards the sky in agony. Gabite then ran around and grabbed Steelix’s tail, and with all its strength it spun the pokemon around and around and finally let go, sending it flying off the cliff and into the valley below.
Gabite, exhausted and practically out of energy, fell to the ground. Nick, Mareep, and Ian all ran over to Gabite and hugged it to death. Then everyone backed away as Ian got down next to his dragon pokemon.
“Good job, buddy. I’m proud of you.” Ian hugged Gabite. Mareep trotted over and nudged Gabite in the side playfully. Gabite then rubbed Mareep’s head. The little sheep then turned to Tangy, specifically to a pokeball on her belt.
“What? This?” Tangy asked, taking it off her belt and holding it out to Mareep. “You want to join us, Mareep?” Mareep smiled and ran up to the pokeball, and when she hit it the sheep pokemon turned bright red and went into the ball. The pokeball wiggled in Tangy’s hand, then stopped. Mareep was now hers.

Episode 2: Unknown lockdown! (Part 1)

“Mareep use thundershock now!” Tangy commanded as her Mareep emitted electric sparks at Yanma, who quickly dodged them and used sonicboom in retaliation.
“Yanma let’s not lose! Be tough and hit again with sonicboom!” Yanma attacked with another sonic wave before Mareep could even recover from the first one.
“Mareep let’s not lose! You have the advantage so use thundershock!”
“Halt it in its tracks with an ancientpower Yanma!” Nick yelled out as the rocks Yanma threw dissipated the electric sparks. Yanma then moved in for the kill and beat Mareep head on, knocking out the little sheep.
“Mareep…return. That was a good battle, nick…” Tangy said, a little disappointed.
“You would’ve won if Yanma wasn’t so fast and if it wasn’t so experienced. If I used Sentret or Tododile you would’ve had a much better chance.” Nick reassured his friend by patting her on the back, “You’ll be a strong trainer too, trust me.” He smiled. Tangy returned it.
“Hey guys! GUYS!” Ian said running into the clearing that Nick and Tangy had been battling in. He was closely followed by Gabite, Snover, and Cyndaquil, “CHECK THIS OUT!!!” He was, panting quickly, then grabbing Nick’s arm and pulling him in the direction he just came from. Tangy and Yanma quickly followed.
They kept running until they reached what looked like ruins. There were stone bricks scattered everywhere, mainly near what looked like old buildings. Nick and Tangy looked in awe at the ruins, set in between a little lake and the forest that they were just in.
“What are they…?” Nick asked out loud as he panned the ruins. Tangy asked a similar question, only to see Ian spin around and stare at them.
“I don’t know! But they’re hella cool!” He exclaimed, “We should check them out guys!” He said excitedly.
“Ian, what if they are booby traps? What if we die?” Nick asked cautiously.
“Nick Nick Nick…stop being a wimp. Let’s go! We have our pokemon if we get in trouble, anyways.” Ian said, running off into one of the broken buildings with Gabite and Cyndaquil following behind. Nick and Tangy looked at each other, nodded (Nick nodded nervously) and they ran off in pursuit of Ian.
They found him looking down a set of stairs that undoubtedly led underground. Ian then cautiously side-stepped downwards as if he were some secret agent on a life-threatening mission. Nick and Tangy laughed at his movements, especially once Gabite was emulating him. The group then went down the set of stairs and saw a big room that looked like a maze, judging from how the walls were positioned.
“Where are we…?” Nick asked as he looked around. Ian ran over to the walls and looked at the strange markings on it.
“This is a totally different language. It looks like they have eyes. Woah!” Ian said in shock when he realized that each character did infact have one eye. He moved to the left and the eyes surprisingly followed him. He moved to the right and each eye moved to get better focus on him. “They’re…watching me!” Ian said and ran over behind Tangy. Gabite tried to but only ended up tackling both Ian and Tangy to the ground. Ian laughed but then saw the eyes and freaked out again.
“That is trippy…” Nick said as he looked over at the eyes himself.
“Unknown, attack!” A voice yelled out from nowhere. Suddenly the characters flew off of the wall and surrounded Nick, Ian, Tangy, and Gabite, and let out an electrifying psychic energy.
“Intruders shall die!” The voice said, getting closer. “Unknown, destroy them.” A man now appeared.
“We…didn’t…know…” Nick said, gritting his teeth as he reached for a pokeball, “Tododile, use water gun!” He said, throwing the pokeball away from the Unknown. Tododile came out and blasted a jet of water at the black unknown, temporarily halting their attacks.
“Chikorita go! Use razor leaf!” Tangy commanded.
“Gabite use dragon claw!” Ian said, copying his friends by also attacking. The Unknown didn’t stand a chance, and the man that ordered the attack looked at them in surprise.
“Intruders worthy of seeing the Ruin of Alph. Welcome, I am Randall, the caretaker of these ruins and master of the Unknown.”
“Hey…I’m Nick.” Ian and Tangy also introduced themselves. Randall then looked at them in a peculiar way.
“Why are you three here?”
“Well, Ian here wanted to check it out.”
“I’m afraid you must leave though…I don’t want for strangers who could possibly annihilate them. They are sacred ruins that deserve to stay, for history’s sake.” Randall felt the wall, “This wall was made by my ancestors, they were real magic men, I tell you.” He looked at them. “Say, you kids don’t exactly seem like you would do anything real bad, so if you like I could show you something, to make up for almost killing you.”
“Umm…ok?” Nick said, turning to Yanma for approval. The bug agreed, and then Ian and Tangy did aswell. Randall smiled and motioned them to follow him.
They walked through the seemingly endless maze until they reached a door. This door in particular was incredibly large, and Randall put one hand on it, and the door magically opened.
Nick, Ian, and Tangy peered into the doorway, only to see an endless white sheet of snow on the ground. They walked in (or rather, out) of the doorway and into an infinite land of snow.

Episode 3: Unknown lockdown! (Part 2)

Randall moved past the group and started trekking through the snow to at what seemed to be a hill off in the distance. Nick, Ian, and Tangy all looked at each other, exchanged looks, and tried to catch up to him.
They kept moving for the better half of an hour until they reached a crevice large enough to fit a couple incredibly fat guys. Tangy was near dead cold, Ian was clutching onto Gabite to prevent his pokemon from fainting from the cold, and Nick’s eyes were watering and almost shut due to the cold air hitting his face.
“We’re here.” Randall said, moving through the giant crevice and waiting for them to move through. Nick went first, helping Tangy, Ian, and Gabite get through also (for they had difficulty moving by now).
“Randall…where are we?” Nick asked, holding onto the rock wall covered in snow for support.
“The Sinjoh ruins.” Randall plainly stated.
“Where the hell are we though!?” Ian demanded to know.
“Not in Johto, that’s for sure. There it no snow in Johto.”
“But there’s snow in Sinnoh.” Nick said, “Are we there?”
“No, no we aren’t.” Randall said, then he pulled out an electronic map. “Look at this. The map I have doesn’t recognize the Sinjoh ruins. So, in fact we really don’t know where we are.”
“MAYBE IT’S BROKEN.” Tangy yelled at Randall.
“Maybe, just maybe, its not, Tangy. Calm down, all of you. I could leave you out here to die, if you’d prefer that.” Randall responded, “If not, follow me.”
The group had no choice but to listen, and followed Randall into another ruined building. Inside they saw one big, dark room. In the middle was a giant black triangle and three smaller blue circles near the tips of the triangle. Nick, Tangy, and Ian looked in awe as they also began to warm up.
Nick approached the triangle, as if he was drawn to it. Ian and Tangy looked at him ascend the steps up to elevated triangle. They followed him.
At the center of the triangle was Cynthia. The blonde haired sinnoh champion was indeed in front of Nick, looking at him.
“Nick, it’s been to long…Welcome to the Sinjoh ruins.” She said. Her voice seemed a bit off, but Nick figured it was a cold or something. “How are you? Enjoying your journey?”
“Cynthia…I am, thank you. Why are you here?”
“Why, I watch over this place. You know I’m interested in this kind of stuff.”
“Oh yeah, sorry I forgot.” Nick said nervously.
“Nick, that’s not—“ Ian interrupted looked up at Nick.
“I’m pretty sure I would notice the sinnoh champion when I see her, alright Ian?”
“Anyways, I’ve asked Randall, my uncle, to bring you here if you were ever to come, so I could show this to you, this amazing piece of history.”
“Alright, I’ve seen it, now what?”
“You, Ian, and your friend each step into one of these circles, if you will.” She said, letting the group each choose. Nick chose the red at the top. Ian chose the blue one to the lower right, and Tangy the light purple one to the lower left. Cynthia then beckoned for an unfamiliar named pokemon, and stepped out of the triangle, walking over to Randall.
“ARCEUS, COME FORTH!” She said, almost in a masculine voice.
A large white, gray, and yellow pokemon flew from the ceiling of the ruins and crashed onto the center of the triangle, regained it posture, and looked at the three kids.
“Now, unknown, destroy them!” Randall ordered, and hundred of Unknown swarmed around the three circles, making escape practically impossible. They then used the same pseudo-electric attack they had earlier. Nick, Ian, and Tangy fell to the ground in agony as the unknown attacked with full-force. This time Nick couldn’t send out a pokeball to aid him, and thus was lost.
“Arceus, I command you to use judgment now!” Cynthia said.
“CYNTHIA! STOP THEM! PLEASE!” Nick screamed out in pain.
“Are you seriously asking me that?” Cynthia pulled off her blonde hair, revealing a tuft of gray hair under it. She was wearing a wig. And she wasn’t a she, this Cynthia was an old man!”
“Haha! In the name of the great Cyrus, I have caught you in my trap!” The old man said.
“NICK! I TOLD YOU THAT WASN’T CYNTHIA!” Ian screamed out to his friend as Arceus began using judgment and blowing away part of the unknown wall surrounding the circles.
“HOW DID YOU KNOW?” Nick screamed back as his wall was blown down.
“I THINK I KNOW MY SISTER WHEN I SEE HER. AND PLUS, SHE ISN’T THAT SHORT!”
“I heard that!” The old man yelled out. “For that, you’ll die first!” He asked Arceus to specifically aim at Ian, and just when Arceus was about to, Ian’s circle began to glow bright purple, and it seemed for a second Ian used roar of time to stop the attack. But it wasn’t. A giant dialga shot out of Ian and tackled Arceus. Just then Tangy swiped her hand and the Unknown were blasted away, then Palkia came out of her and joined in the fight.
Nick’s finally started to glow a bright red, and for a second he saw the image of Giratina before he disappeared, unbeknownst to the Unknown. Then he came out of nowhere outside the deadly circle and struck at Arceus, then disappeared again, much to Ian and Tangy’s surprise. He was then in front of Randall and the old man, and kicked the former in the side while turning his hand into a giant claw and slicing the old man in the stomach. Both fell down just as Giratina popped out of nick and delivered the final blow to Arceus, fainting it.
Giratina, Dialga, and Palkia all looked at Nick, Ian, Tangy, all of whom were burned and bearing torn clothes. Then they nodded and each went through their respective circles, teleporting away to wherever they came from.
Tangy and Ian walked over to Nick. “What was that all about?” Ian asked, hoping for an answer.
“I don’t exactly know. But that old man…whoever he was…he did what he did in the name of Cyrus…I killed Cyrus…” Nick said grimly. Ian and Tangy looked at each other, than at Nick.
“Well, I knew that, but I mean…wow, someone must really like Cyrus.”
Tangy was oddly confused. Nick looked over at her, “Long story.” He said, reassuring her. She responded with a silent “ah.”
“Anyways, let’s get out of here, and quickly.” Nick said, and began to walk out of the room, looking at the dead old man and the nearly dead Randall, who was unconscious at the moment. Tangy and Ian followed him as they entered the infinite land of snow again.
“Dammit, where do we go now?” Ian asked. Nick then looked at the sky.
“I have no idea, but I have a sense we go that way.” He said, pointing to the south. He then ran through the snow, much slower than he would if he were running on earth. Tangy and Ian followed, also much slower.
They pushed through the heavy snow for what seemed forever until they reached a rift in space. Then a door opened to the Ruins of Alph, and Nick ran in, and so did Ian and Tangy just before the door closed. They were back home.
