Spirited (The Legend of UMA) Chapter One: Beginning of an End Grovyle spun its arms and images flashed onto the clear glass screen. “Hopefully this one will prove less resistant” Grovyle muttered. He glanced down through the window into the room below. A tiny Pokemon lay unconscious on a table, the human named Dave hurried around it, checking the machinery in the room. “Grovyle; we’re ready now.” Loudred told him. Dave nodded in the room below and gave a thumbs up. “Well let’s see what’s in that head” Grovyle muttered. He slid his arms along the screen and the image responded. The first picture was pulled to the side and a new one replaced it. “This one’s got nothing different” Loudred growled. “Azelf had all the same information in its head; the only difference is that we sometimes see Lake Verity.” Grovyle shook his head, and zoomed in on a tiny image that had been hidden inside another one. “Look there, in the lake’s reflection.” He whispered. “That’s Uxie!” In the room below, Mesprit suddenly shuddered. It was still unconscious, but it began to thrash on the table. Dave threw his arms over it to keep it steady, and the body of Mesprit went limp. “No!” Grovyle cursed under his breath. “I almost had it!” The images on the screen began to blend together, Loudred took in a sharp breath and glanced at Grovyle. “No, it’s not me doing it.” The Grass Pokemon whispered. The colours on the screen formed two white almond shapes, two glowing yellow circles lit up inside them and darted around… Mesprit was watching them! Grovyle slowly raised its arm, the gauntlet that normally controlled the screen began to crackle, and the glass itself began to bulge forwards! Two thin strands of glass shot out at the bottom and formed Mesprit’s tail; it still glowed with the blue of the Lake Verity image that had been on that spot on the screen. “That’s impossible” Grovyle whispered. Then the gauntlet began to smoke, Grovyle shouted out in pain and threw it off of his arm. But it didn’t fall to the floor, instead it spun in the air and floated onto the glass hand of Mesprit. “Grovyle, what is your purpose?” Mesprit’s voice echoed through the room. “You don’t seem like yourself.” Grovyle gulped, “We need to find Uxie” he said. “It’s for the good of all Pokemon and people!” Mesprit blinked. “People? I’ve never heard you even speak a word of humans before. Yet I can’t deny my eyes, you work with them now…” The glass Mesprit placed its hand on Grovyle’s forehead. “But your emotions are mixed… You’re scared and unsure. You want help…” “Grovyle…” Loudred muttered, “You shouldn’t let it touch you. It may not be the real thing but it still has power.” “Right.” Mesprit nodded, “And it’s time to use that power!” Suddenly every screen in the room lit up bright pink. Grovyle’s eyes did the same. “Now it’s up to you” Mesprit whispered. The giant screen that Mesprit had used to form its glass self shattered and Grovyle fell to its knees. “What…?” Grovyle struggled to its feet. “Grovyle” Loudred said, “I’m sorry. You really are the only friend I’ve ever had, so I won’t try to stop you. But the ghosts are coming.” Grovyle shook his head. His vision was coming back into focus. Loudred had its hand on the alarm button. “Run Grovyle” Loudred whispered. “Wha?” Grovyle looked back and forth between Loudred and the button, he still didn’t quite understand what was happening. Loudred took in a deep breath and shadows formed on the walls. The ghosts were about to arrive. “RUUUUUUUUUN!!!” |

Chapter Two: Runners Grovyle snapped back to attention and fear left him. He sprang over Loudred’s head and a Leaf Blade extended from his arm. The shadows began to bulge forwards. Grovyle smashed through the glass window and landed on top of Dave in the room below. The human was knocked to the ground by the sudden weight of the Pokemon on it, but Grovyle paid no attention. “We have a runner…” The shadow chuckled. A grin stretched across its face and its red eyes glowed maliciously. “This is going to be fun!” Grovyle ripped the body of Mesprit off the table, dozens of wires that had been attached to the Pokemon popped off. “It’s up to me is it?” He said as he ran. “Well then you’re leaving with me Mesprit!” Grovyle shredded a metal grate on the floor with Leaf Blade and leapt into the sewers. He ran through the filthy water at full speed, staying well ahead of the dozens of ghosts on his trail. After several minutes he became aware that many of his pursuers had fallen far behind or taken a wrong turn. Only one was left. Grovyle stopped and turned. He waited as the shadow formed and the leader of the ghostly hunters stepped through the walls. “It’s time to go back Grovyle” Gengar sneered. “I don’t think so” Grovyle said. He slung Mesprit over his shoulder and dashed forwards. “Your attacks won’t work on me” Gengar chuckled as a Shadow Ball formed in his hands. Grovyle skidded to a stop face to face with Gengar. “You can stop my attacks” Grovyle said, “But can you stop your own moves?” Grovyle slashed the Shadow Ball causing it to explode in Gengar’s hand. The ghost was knocked backwards through the wall and Grovyle turned once again and ran. “I’m not going back yet…” Grovyle said as he ran. *** “C’mon, you can run faster than that!” Politoed yelled. The human girls Paola and Sam nodded and began to sprint faster around the track. They were doing well. Politoed remembered the first time he had met them… *** (Flashback) “Hold on Sam!” Paola shouted, “I won’t let it get past!” The shell of a Pokemon floated down the school hall towards them, Shedinja formed a small light blue ball of ice with Hidden Power and fired it towards the girls. “Take back your attack!” Paola yelled, “We don’t want it!” She swung her textbook and sent the ball flying back towards Shedinja. It exploded with powerful force, but the bug didn’t seem phased at all and kept on advancing! “Paola” Sam whispered, “Don’t let it…” Sam was interrupted as a powerful blast of water shot through the door beside Shedinja and knocked it against the lockers! The ghost didn’t seem hurt, but it turned its attention away from the girls. “Sorry commander.” Politoed said as he walked into the hallway, “But I’m sure you’ll have fun explaining to the other ghosts why you failed.” Politoed held out an Iron Ball. “This little move is called Fling!” He grinned and whipped the ball at Shedinja. The bug crumbled as the ball hit it, and Politoed knew that its spirit was floating away at high speed to reform in safety. “You two had better follow me” Politoed said giving the girls a smile. “Can she walk?” Paola shook her head, Sam was out cold. “All right” Politoed said, “Help me carry her. There’ll be time for introductions later.” *** Since then they had been running. Shedinja had attacked that school to draw an enemy out of hiding, and it had succeeded! But Politoed had been running since long before that day, and he knew how to stay ahead of the ghosts. “Eleven!” Paola completed her lap. “Keep going!” Politoed shouted. “You need to be able to cover distance without stopping!” Sam completed her lap several seconds later. She was still weaker than Paola by far, but had improved greatly since that day in the past. “This is the last lap!” Politoed called to them. “I don’t want to stay in the same place too long, it’s dangerous.” Paola and Sam nodded and finished their dozenth laps. |

Chapter Three: Ike “Don’t worry.” Ike said to the shivering Pichu, “This won’t hurt you at all.” He pushed a button and the old computer screens that lined the basement walls flickered to life. For just a moment Ike saw an image of himself on screen, but it was twisted and grotesque. “Is that how you see me?” He whispered. The images began to blur. “No! I need to see more!” Ike yelled. He twisted the power knob to maximum and all the screens lit back up. Ike stared in wonder at the images before him, and then the room went dark! “Darn.” Ike picked up a flashlight and shone it towards the wall. He walked over to a small switch and flipped it. “That’s better.” The room lit back up. “Now, back to… Oh shoot! Not again!” Pichu was gone; it had run from the house when the lights had died. “Why won’t this work?” Ike leaned against the wall and slid down to the floor. “If they would just stop running…” Suddenly there was a loud snap. The grate on the floor flew into the air and a Pokemon jumped out from the sewers. “Grovyle!?” Ike gasped, “Aw shoot, look whatever I did; I didn’t do it! You can’t prove anything, I haven’t done anything wrong!” “Shut up!” Grovyle snapped. “If you were under arrest do you really think they would send me? No! It would be one of the ghosts floating through your door.” Ike was shaking. “Aw geez, then its personal isn’t it? You’re coming to get revenge on me because you think I’m a bad person!” Grovyle walked forwards and punched him in the face. “Yes, it is personal.” He said, “And you are a bad person. But that was enough revenge for me.” Grovyle took Mesprit off his back. “I need you to hack in this Pokemon’s head” he said. Ike’s eyes widened. “Is that Mesprit!” He looked back and forth between Grovyle and the small Psychic Pokemon, then a grin stretched across his face. “Aha! They’re after you aren’t they? I told you last time we met didn’t I? Nobody is permanent to the ghosts!” Ike leaned in towards Grovyle. “Why do you think you got my job after all?” He whispered. Grovyle shrugged, “That doesn’t matter right now! Can you hack Mesprit or not?” “No way man!” Ike said, “Hacking a Psychic is just asking for trouble!” Grovyle grabbed Ike by his shirt collar. “You will do it!” He growled. Ike laughed. “You think force is going to change my mind Grovyle? I was the one who hacked Azelf; I know what happens when you cross that line that wasn’t meant to be crossed!” Grovyle let go of Ike’s collar. “Of course… There is another way!” Ike chuckled. Grovyle raised his head, “What is it?” “I could hack into you instead!” Ike laughed. “If you’re being hunted, then chances are you were in direct contact with Mesprit! There may be traces of it left inside you!” Grovyle nodded. “But…” Ike smirked. “That would give me complete control over your brain. One angry thought passes into my head and I might make a rash decision and turn your brain to mush!” “Except then you’d never know the truth” Grovyle whispered. “And you wouldn’t be able to stand not knowing. So go ahead, I’m ready!” *** “Politoed was there, but I had… trouble.” Shedinja told the other three. “I didn’t anticipate his fling attack.” Mismagius giggled, “Too bad for you isn’t it?” She laughed at the frustrated Shedinja who still couldn’t move. Though it had been months, only three quarters of its body had reformed so far. The power of Politoed’s Fling had made it more difficult to heal this time. “Yes, how many times are you going to fall to a single attack silly?” Froslass asked. “I hate to tell you sweetie” Shedinja said, making sure to add obvious sarcasm to the word sweetie, “but that’s how Wonder Guard works!” “Yes, Wonder Guard” Mismagius said, “As in, it’s a wonder you’re still one of the Big 5!” Mismagius and Froslass both burst into laughter. “Enough!” The other ghost in the room said, “I sense Gengar will return in a minute. Soon you two gigglers will have a chance to prove that you aren’t all talk.” Froslass and Mismagius nodded. |

Chapter Four: Willpower Sam walked alone through the old park, she nervously looked around at the broken down slide and rusted teeter totter. Tattered brown leaves lay in loose piles across the park, their brilliant autumn reds and yellows had long since faded. “Is anyone here?” The wind howled through the deserted playground. “You’re weak” A voice echoed. Sam gasped and tried to see the source of the voice. “The swings” it whispered. Sam felt herself lose control, her feet began to move by themselves, and she walked to the rusted swing set and sat down on the one unbroken seat. “What do you want most?” The voice asked her. “Will you fight for it?” Another gust of wind blew past and the nearest pile of leaves scattered. They danced in the air and began to brighten, changing back to bright reds and yellows, then to green! “They’d lost the will to survive” the voce said. “Without enough light, they gave up and began to lose their colour.” “Who are you?” Sam pleaded. The leaves spun together and formed a small floating elf-like shape. Two bright yellow eyes shone from within it. “I am Azelf.” Sam’s eyes widened. “Willpower” Azelf said quietly. “These leaves were able to take hold of what little light they could find and come back. What about you?” “I can’t” Sam sighed, “They only turned green again because of your power. On their own they couldn’t do a thing. Just like me…” Azelf tilted its leafy head. “Then find me” it whispered. “My true body is trapped in a glass palace. If you find me, I promise to lend my power to helping you.” Sam nodded. “I’ll try” she whispered. Azelf smiled. “One last thing” it said quietly. “I’ve raised a defensive shield. Your friends can’t reach me, so it’s up to you.” It placed its hand on Sam’s forehead and a giant blast of wind shot through the park, lifting up dozens of piles of leaves. They began flashing bright colours; blues, reds, greens, pinks! Azelf’s leaf body began to do the same and started to mix with the rest of the whirlwind of plants. “I trust you Sam.” Azelf’s voice echoed. “The glass palace…” *** “Sam?” Paola poked her friend. “Sam; wake up. We have to leave now!” Sam opened her eyes. She was back at the campsite, Paola was leaning over her. “Come on” Paola said, “Politoed said something’s coming!” At that moment Politoed bounded back into the clearing. He was out of breath and had a frightened look on his face. “You two have to get out of here!” He panted, “Mismagius is coming and…” He gasped for breath. “I don’t think I can beat her like I did with Shedinja.” Sam blinked and sat up. That hadn’t been a dream, she was sure that Azelf had really spoken to her. “A glass palace” she said, “I think I have to go there.” Politoed’s eyes widened in shock and his mouth fell open for a moment. Then he closed his mouth again and looked off into the distance. “I know where that is” He said quietly. “I don’t want to send you two there, but if you know about it already then I don’t think I have a choice.” Politoed shook his head. “No, it’s still too dangerous! Before you go there, I want you to meet a friend of mine in Pethel City. Complete your training with him and he’ll take you where you need to go.” Sam nodded. “His name” Politoed said, “Is Ike!” “Well then we’d better get going” Paola announced, “Of course I’m going with you.” Politoed smiled. “Yes, its best if you two stay together” he said. “Because I won’t be joining you. Now listen closely, this is his address.” *** Loudred swung its arms across the screen. “So, that’s how the gauntlet works. You ready to try it?” “Yes” Croagunk sighed impatiently. “Of course we don’t have it hooked up to Azelf or Mesprit now” Loudred told him. “So it’s a bit limited. Not to mention that the big screen was shattered by Mesprit.” Croagunk paid no attention and clapped its hands together, opening up thousands of files at once. “It’s more than enough” Croagunk whispered. |

Chapter Five: Emotion “Relax” Ike told Grovyle. “My tech is pretty old, and if you resist even a little bit it could crash.” Grovyle sighed and let himself go limp. “Alright, here goes nothing.” Ike whispered. He pulled a switch and held his breath. The screens showed nothing but blurred colour. “I’m turning it up to four” Ike said. He twisted the dial and the screens began to come into focus. He could make out colours and vague shapes. “Seven” Ike told Grovyle. Ike turned it again and glanced back at the screen. He saw a distorted video of himself. A fist shot into the video and struck him in the face. “I’ll have to go further back” Ike said as he rubbed his jaw where Grovyle had punched him. “I’m turning it up to nine!” The image raced backwards. Ike watched Gengar flying forwards through a wall as a fiery explosion turned into a Shadow Ball. Then he saw Gengar step backwards through the wall and watched the sewer tunnels race away as Grovyle’s memory of running through them played in reverse. Then; just as the image reached the chamber that Ike recognized. The place that had once held Azelf, and now in this video held Mesprit, the screen froze. “I’m turning it to ten!” Ike said, “Relax completely Grovyle, this is where problems always occur.” Ike set a camcorder on the table and tapped the Record button. Then he took a deep breath and turned the dial to ten. For a moment the screens died. Ike cursed under his breath and stepped forwards to see what was wrong. “Ike” Grovyle had stood up, his eyes were glowing pink. “Azelf was right” Grovyle said, his voice echoing eerily. “He did go to you after all.” Ike gulped, “Mesprit?” He gasped. “This is what you might call a recorded message” Grovyle said, “I’ve left it in Grovyle’s head for you to hear. Make sure to tell him everything I say.” Ike nodded. “As you might know, I am Mesprit, the Pokemon of Emotion. When Grovyle tried to look into my mind, I saw the mixed feelings in his.” Grovyle looked at the ground. “It was then that I knew Grovyle could save me. But they would hunt him, because we had come in contact.” Ike understood. The same thing had happened when he had tried to hack into Azelf. “So I gave Grovyle a gift.” Mesprit’s message continued, “Since it was only a projection of me that had seen him, my power didn’t completely overwhelm him and I was able to affect his emotion.” Ike’s eyes widened. “When he is in danger, his emotions shut down” Mesprit’s message told him. “It happened when the ghost attacked him in the sewers. Without emotion he was able to think logically, and escape!” “No emotion?” Ike whispered. “Ike” Mesprit’s message said. “You can end this. You can stop them from hunting you, if you help me.” Grovyle sighed and the glow in his eyes began to fade. “Find my sister!” The message echoed, “She knows what to do…” Grovyle shut his eyes then opened them again. He was back to his normal self. “So, what did you find out?” He demanded. Ike was still staring at him in shock. “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you man” he said. “Maybe you should take your own word for it instead. The video’s loading.” *** “I haven’t seen you in such a long time” Politoed said. “I know” Mismagius responded. “I had hoped that we would meet on better terms.” Politoed shook his head. “What’s done is done. There’s nothing we can do to change that my dear.” A tear dripped from Mismagius’ eye. “Then prepare yourself” she whispered. “Today, we fight!” Mismagius shook her head softly, “I thought I’d be more prepared to be your enemy by the time this moment arrived” she muttered. |

Chapter Six: Knowledge Lights danced across the screen in the darkened room. Ever since Mesprit had been taken, it had been empty most of the time. “Perfect” Croagunk whispered as he found an image of Grovyle. In the room below the other Pokemon began to struggle. “Be silent” Croagunk growled. “You are part of a bigger cause now Loudred.” Croagunk snapped his fingers and the monitors shut down, dragging the room into darkness. “I’ve found it… The being of knowledge has been here all along!” *** Paola and Sam gazed at the giant buildings of Pethel City. “So Ike’s in there?” Paola asked. Sam nodded. “That’s what Politoed said. And…” Paola raised an eyebrow. “And what?” Sam continued to stare at the buildings. “Azelf is in there too!” She pointed towards a huge glass skyscraper that shone like gold in the light of the sunrise. “The glass palace” she whispered. “I’ve found it.” “Well, let’s find Ike then.” Paola said taking a step towards the city. “No” Paola turned back and stared at her friend. “You heard Politoed; neither of us is strong enough to go there yet. We have to finish training.” Sam shook her head. “Training has gone on long enough” she whispered. “Azelf can’t wait much longer.” “Well then we have to go our separate ways” Paola said. Sam nodded, “I guess so…” *** Grovyle dashed out of Ike’s house, paying no attention to the dark haired girl who was walking down the driveway. “Darn it Mesprit” Grovyle growled, “Why there? Why did you call her to that horrible place?” He continued to run at full speed towards the glass palace. *** Froslass breathed in her room’s frigid air. “It’s time” She whispered. “They’re coming together at last.” Froslass blinked as a wave of mental energy flooded the room. “Hm? Who’s there?” A shape began to emerge from the ice. It looked like a small fairy; and it had its eyes tightly shut. “I require your assistance” it said. “Uxie” Froslass gasped. “Look into my eyes” Uxie whispered. Froslass took in a sharp breath as Uxie’s eyes slowly opened. For a moment she saw a flash of colours that she didn’t recognize, and then everything went blank. “Come along puppet” Uxie whispered. “You’re under my power now.” *** Politoed and Mismagius fired blast after blast of water and dark energy at each other, but neither landed a hit. “Where are those other two?” Mismagius asked. Politoed gave her a smile. “Aw come on baby, don’t worry about them.” “I don’t care that you’ve been with other girls Politoed” Mismagius sneered, “You mean nothing to me any more, and you know it!” Politoed put on a hurt face. “Aw, and I thought we still had a chance. Well, no point fighting if we’re not going to get back together.” He pulled out a smoke ball and tossed it from one hand to the other. “See ya ‘round Missy” Politoed called out as he flung the ball at her. Mismagius coughed as the smoke from the ball’s explosion cleared, then stared in shock at the empty field in front of her. She looked at the ground and saw a heart drawn in the mud beside Politoed’s footprints which lead off towards Pethel City. “Politoed…” She whispered. A tear dripped down her cheek and she slowly began to float back home. |

Chapter Seven: The Glass Palace Sam flung a door open just as Croagunk reached for the handle on the other side. For a moment they stood in shock, and then Sam reacted and struck out at Croagunk. The frog spun to avoid Sam’s attack, and grabbed her arm, twisting it behind her back. “Be still” he hissed. Sam continued to struggle. “Who are you?” She demanded, “What are you doing?” “I’m saving your life” Croagunk growled, “Or would you rather deal with the ghosts when they flood the room in a few seconds?” For the first time, Sam noticed the hundreds of dark patches forming on the walls. Purple beings began to float through them from all sides. Some were orbs surrounded by thick gas, while others were jagged with clawed hands that floated separately from their bodies. “Well well, who’s this?” It was the unique one that had spoken. Unlike all the others, it stood on two legs and had glowing red eyes. A terrible grin stretched across its face and it stared at Croagunk and the human girl with curiosity. “So Croagunk?” Gengar asked, “Who is this guest?” Croagunk shook his head. “No idea sir, I caught her sneaking into the building.” Gengar sighed. “I missed the chase then? What a pity… Was there anyone else with her?” Croagunk paused. He hadn’t had time to check if there had been anybody else. “No sir” he said at last, deciding that if there was someone else, it would be better that Gengar didn’t know about them. “Is that so?” Gengar’s eyes narrowed. “Then I’m sure there’s some other reason that your predecessor is here?” Croagunk spun around; standing in the doorway and glaring at Gengar with a look of fury was Grovyle! *** “Training?” Ike laughed. “Hah, if I could train anybody to do anything I’d have a real job!” Paola crossed her arms. “Look, Politoed told me to go here to finish my training.” She snapped at him. Ike’s face brightened. “Oh, Politoed sent you? I thought there’d be two of you coming.” “Sam decided to skip this part.” Paola told him. Ike nodded, “Well, I had two things to give actually, one for each of you. But I guess you’d better take both of them.” Ike searched through some drawers and eventually pulled out an old looking sword. “The Air Cutter!” He said proudly, “Let’s you mimic the Pokemon attack that it’s named for.” Paola swung The Air Cutter and a row of Ike’s computers split in half! “Don’t do that” Ike groaned. He held out the other object that he had pulled from the drawer. It looked like a TV remote, but had only one button. “No clue what this one does” Ike said, shrugging. “Politoed said to use it only for a big emergency.” Paola nodded and turned towards the stairs. “Wait!” The voice hadn’t been Ike’s. Both humans looked towards the small elflike Pokemon that now floated above a table. “Looks like I woke up at the right time” Mesprit said, smiling. “I’m coming along with you!” *** Politoed stood outside the Glass Palace. He could hear the sounds of battle coming from the lobby and decided that the front door wasn’t the best option. He scratched his head and picked out a window. “That’ll work. Bounce time!” Politoed leapt upwards and crashed through the window. He grinned in relief, and then froze when he realized how unusually dark the room was. Politoed glanced behind him. Sure enough, the sun was shining straight through the window. But… the shadow was spreading; a cloak of darkness had already begun to cover the opening the Politoed had leapt through. “After all your running you’ve come back here?” A large, dark, round Pokemon with a gaping mouth on its belly emerged from the shadows. “Dusknoir… The head honcho himself!” Politoed said giving a smile. “Y’know, I’m actually not that honoured to tell the truth.” “Twit” Dusknoir muttered. “Shall we battle?” Politoed asked. Dusknoir nodded. “I suppose so. But you’ve already entered my Trick Room, how can you expect to win?” Politoed smirked, “I guess I’ll just have to try my best.” *** “It is this way” Froslass reported in a monotone voice. “Thank you puppet” Uxie said following Froslass down the hall. “In here.” Uxie floated through the door after Froslass. “Where is Azelf?” Uxie demanded, “I told you to bring me to Azelf!” Froslass shook her head. “You only told me to assist you in finding Azelf” Froslass droned. “I do not know where he is however, which is why I’ve brought you here. This is boss Dusknoir’s room; he is sure to know where Azelf is, and even if he isn’t inside at the moment, there may be some clue in here.” Uxie sighed. “I suppose so” Uxie sent a pulse of her psychic energy through the room and instantly found the trace of knowledge she was looking for. “He’s upstairs” Uxie said. “Come along now.” |

Chapter Eight: Fighting the Five “Stop where you are!” Shedinja shouted. Paola, Ike, and Mesprit didn’t even slow down. “We don’t have time to chat” Paola shouted, swinging the Air Cutter. Shedinja flinched as the blade’s power slashed across him. When his shell began to crumble he groaned. “Aw not again!” “That was easy” Ike laughed. “I’ve gotta try making another one of those Air Cutters when this is all over.” “It’s a good idea.” Mesprit told him, “But maybe we should focus right now?” Paola and Ike nodded and entered through the back door of the Glass Palace. *** “Uxie, please wait a moment.” Uxie looked in confusion at Froslass. It was rare for anyone under her control to speak without being spoken to first. “I suggest recruitment” Froslass said. “Alone, I would not be a match for either Gengar or Dusknoir, and I believe you need to focus on me to continue controlling me.” “I cannot control multiple targets in this place” Uxie said, “My siblings are here as well, and their psychic energy interferes with mine at the moment, we are not synchronized right now. It’s upsetting…” “You need not use your power” Froslass said. “My ice mercenaries do not obey the other ghosts. They will do what I ask them to and will not attempt to harm you.” “That sounds promising” Uxie said, “Lead me to them now Froslass.” *** “Get out of here!” Grovyle shouted at Croagunk and Sam. The frog nodded and quickly pulled the girl out of the room. “Follow them.” Gengar muttered to one of his ghosts. “But sir, don’t you want us to stay and help you?” A Haunter near him asked. “No!” Gengar snapped, “This is MY fight! You go deal with the girl and the frog!” The Haunter nodded and motioned to the other lesser ghosts. They all left the room, following Croagunk and Sam. “So, time to battle!” Gengar whistled. Grovyle felt himself tense up. His emotions drained away as Mesprit’s gift took effect and he felt himself thinking of a strategy for the first time since he’d entered the building. “How would you like a Will-o-wisp?” Gengar asked as a fireball formed in his hand. “It’s free!” He threw it at Grovyle and grinned. Grovyle took in a deep breath and let out a high pitched screech. Gengar’s Will-o-wisp was blown backwards and hit him in the face! “Darn it!” Gengar swore under his breath then grinned. Even though he had been hit, he was beginning to have fun. *** “Hurry!” Croagunk shouted, “They’re still following us.” Sam followed behind him with difficulty. “Where are we going then?” She managed to ask between ragged breaths. “Azelf” Croagunk said. “There’s no way I can beat all those ghost minions, but he might be able to do it if we free him.” “You know where Azelf is?” Sam shouted. Croagunk smirked. “I’m not just a pretty face” he said. The turned down the hallway and found the way blocked by a small team of four Ice type Pokemon. Glaceon, Snover, Weavile, and Jynx blocked their way. “It those Ice Pokemon Froslass commands!” Croagunk cursed. “Horrible timing…” He and Sam turned to run the other way but found the path blocked by dozens of Ghastly and Haunter. “Croagunk… Please say you’ve got another plan!” Sam whispered. “Uh, yeah” Croagunk said, “About that… Do you have a coin? Heads we fight past the ghosts, tails we try breaking past the Ice Pokemon. *** “This is your living nightmare” Dusknoir’s voice echoed. “Let your fear defeat you Politoed. It will come eventually no matter how much you resist.” “What is it that you fear Politoed?” *** Politoed found himself standing in the sky. He glanced down at his feet and the lack of ground under them. “Politoed.” A Pokemon began to fade into view; with every second its colour was more clear. “Mismagius!” Politoed gasped, “What are you doing here? Where is here?” “Politoed…” Mismagius whispered. “In a minute one of us will cease to float. It’s up to you Politoed; which one of us do you choose? Who will live while the other falls to their death?” |

Chapter Nine: Ghosts With Leaf blades held steady in front of him, Grovyle watched Gengar with a cold calculating gaze. When the group of Pokemon and people led by Paola burst through the door, Grovyle only took a single moment to look at the new arrivals. Gengar on the other hand didn’t have Mesprit’s gift to rely on. He was startled by the new arrivals long enough for Grovyle to hit with Leaf Blade. Just as Gengar regained his focus on the Grass Pokemon; Paola swung the Air Cutter and hit the ghost from the other side. As Gengar changed focus once again it was hit by Grovyle’s Dragonbreath. The ghost continued getting hit, unable to watch both enemies at once, and was quickly defeated. As Gengar fell and sank through the floor in defeat, Grovlye lowered his arms. He nodded to them without a word and motioned for them to follow. “Oops, you’ve still got my powers!” Mesprit said. “Hold on for a minute.” She placed her hand on Grovyle’s head, and pulled a pink energy out of his body. When it was gone, life had returned to Grovyle’s eyes. “Glad I can enjoy Gengar being defeated” Grovyle said. “I wish I had time to gloat about it, but I don’t. So hurry up, let’s go.” *** “Hold on” Uxie said, stopping at a closed door. She tilted her head, listening for a sound that wasn’t there. Froslass touched the doorknob lightly and was thrown backwards by a dark energy. Uxie grimaced, she had felt something sever her connection to Froslass. “Farewell puppet” Uxie muttered, placing her hand on a metal pipeline that ran along the ceiling and melting into the metal. Uxie’s metallic essence flowed along the pipe’s surface, crossing through a tiny gap into the next room. Uxie reformed in a corner, just outside of a crackling bubble of dark energy. Inside was the hunched form of a Pokemon. *** Shadow Balls formed in the claws of the ghosts while a cold wind blew from the Ice Pokemon’s side of the hallway. “I’ve got a different idea.” Sam whispered. “Yeah? What do you have in mind?” Croagunk muttered, eyeing the opponents nearest to him. “Just stand still for a moment” Sam said. “Doesn’t sound like the plan I’d been hoping for.” Croagunk hissed. “Wait…” Sam whispered as the Shadow balls grew bigger and Ice Shards began to spin. “Wait… Wait… Get down!” Sam pulled Croagunk to the floor as shadows and ice whizzed past overhead, the Shadow Balls struck the Ice Pokemon, and the Ghosts were hit by the ice. Enraged, the two groups forgot Croagunk and Sam and charged each other. Sam and Croagunk crawled out of the fighting mob of Pokemon. “That was fun.” Croagunk muttered, “Let’s get going kiddo.” They ran down the hall and skidded to a stop in front of a large metal door. Croagunk raised his arm and slammed the door with a Brick Break, the metal crunched inwards, but the door wouldn’t move. “Croagunk… It’s unlocked.” Sam said, turning the handle and opening the door. “Well uh… I knew that!” Croagunk protested, “But that’s not nearly as fun!” Stepping inside, they saw a huge glass cylinder with a glowing blue form inside. “Azelf!” Sam whispered. *** Politoed floated in horror. He had to choose who wouldn’t live! “Who will it be?” Mismagius asked. “Who has to fall?” Politoed grimaced, “You know I couldn’t make you fall.” He groaned, “So I’ll do it.” Mismagius nodded and Politoed felt the invisible ground disappear. He began to plummet, but he had barely fallen for a second when Mismagius caught him. “You idiot!” She shouted, “I thought I taught you how to deal with nightmares.” She dropped him and Politoed felt the invisible ground once again. Looking up he saw Mismagius beside him, and a second Mismagius, the one who had asked who would fall, floating high above! The Mismagius beside him shot into the air, crashing into the other one and tearing it to bits. The sky around them began to flicker, and fall apart until it looked like a dismantled jigsaw puzzle. “Ah Mismagius… I though you’d been disposed of by Politoed.” Dusknoir had appeared before them, and Politoed realized that they were back in the room. He glanced towards the window and saw the sun outside! “Very well” Dusknoir said, “My Trick Room didn’t work, but even without it I have more than enough power to defeat both of you!” |

Chapter Ten: Uma “So that’s Azelf huh?” Sam asked, so far she had only seen the leafy form that had appeared in her dream. Croagunk nodded and stepped forwards, but stiffened like a statue, his foot still slightly raised. “I can’t move” He hissed, struggling to speak when he apparently couldn’t move his lips either. Sam thought back and remembered Azelf saying something about a barrier. “He said I could reach him.” She said, moving closer to the tank that held the psychic Pokemon. Sam moved slowly, careful to pay attention to her own body, ready to pull back if she began to freeze like Croagunk. She didn’t though and made it all the way to the tank without difficulty. “It needs a password to open.” She said. “Each of the Big 5 has a personal password.” Croagunk told her from across the room. His difficulty speaking was becoming noticeable, and Sam could hear the strain in his voice. “Any one of the passwords should work.” Sam thought of the Ghosts. She had never actually met Dusknoir, Gengar, or Froslass, and she knew very little of Shedinja’s personality. That only left Mismagius. “Politoed” she muttered, typing in the frog’s name. “Password accepted. Welcome Mismagius to holding room 6! Current prisoner: Azelf, Security is set to level 100.” “Can you please drop security to level Zero?” Sam asked. “Right away Ms. Mismagius.” The glass surrounding Azelf melted away and the tiny fairy blinked, opening its eyes and shaking its head. When it saw Sam the tiny fairy laughed with joy. “Haha! I knew you’d come!” He shouted. “Urlf EEe!” Sam and Azelf turned to look at Croagunk. He seemed unable to speak now too! “Could you help him out?” Sam asked. “Nope” Azelf said, “But I think you can!” He flicked Sam with his tail and a blue light connected them for a moment before it was pulled into Sam’s body. Sam took a breath and felt her new power she pointed to Croagunk and he went limp, falling to the floor! “Was that too much!?” Sam yelled in alarm, dashing to Croagunk’s side. The frog groaned and rubbed his head as he got to his feet. “Hey, I can move! Hey, I can speak!” Croagunk clapped his hands and grinned. “Well, everyone’s here now. I’m sure you can sense your sisters already too!” He said to Azelf. “Care to lead the way?” *** Politoed took out his Iron Ball and prepared to fling it at Dusknoir. “Hold on a moment.” From the corner, a yellow Pokemon with eyes shut tight emerged. “Uxie” Dusknoir said, as though it was no surprise. “Azelf is awake, and Mesprit is inside.” Uxie said, “As well, Shedinja and Gengar have been defeated, and I’ve erased Froslass’ memory of being one of your ‘Big 5’. It seems Mismagius has turned against you too.” Dusknoir gave a smug nod. “So my pawns have fallen” he said. “So you have some minor victory.” “Well you forget who you deal with Uxie, alone you cannot defeat me, and together… If your siblings arrive I will have no choice but to bring you all down with me, and in the shadow world I will rule while you will cower in fear.” “Have you forgotten Uma?” Uxie asked him. “Your mother?” Dusknoir scoffed, “Nothing more than a myth! I’ve done enough prying into Azelf and Mesprit’s minds to know that you three were created from Arceus alone.” “Little fool.” Uxie muttered, “I am the Pokemon of knowledge. You forget that you were unable to capture me and look in my mind! Without Knowledge, Emotion, and Willpower, Uma is indeed just a legend, but together She is all too real.” “That can’t be” Dusknoir growled, “I’ve done so much research, put so many hours into this, and I found the truth. you were not born from Uma, I’m sure of it.” Uxie chuckled, “Well it may seem a bit like a legend, but that is of course what one would expect when dealing with legendary Pokemon. My siblings and I were not born from our mother, we were born from Arceus and Uma was born from us!” Politoed raised an eyebrow. “Sounds pretty freaky he said quietly.” Then he tilted his head, “Oy! Someone’s coming in.” *** Grovle and Ike kicked down the door. They jumped into the room and stood in shock at the large crowd. “Uxie!” Mesprit darted around them and floated to her sister, an excited pink glow pulsing from her. “I haven’t seen you in such a long time!” Mesprit laughed happily. Uxie nodded and her lip curled into a faint smile. “Could everyone except Mesprit please look away for a moment.” Everyone turned their faces as Uxie’s eyes opened and her stare met Mesprit’s. “We’re done” Mesprit said moments later. Everyone turned and saw that Uxie’s eyes were once again closed. “It feels good to be in sync again Mesprit said, but it’s not completely right yet.” Uxie nodded and the two took in a breath, together with one voice they called out: “AZELF!!!” |

Chapter Eleven: Dawn of Dusk The walls of the room seemed to shrink away until they were far past the horizon. Looking around, the group saw that they were on an endless tiled plain that stretched out in all directions.” “Trick Room again?” Mismagius scoffed, “I’m the master of Nightmare Dusknoir, not you.” She closed her eyes and walls began to shimmer back into place. “In your moment of insolent pride, you forget that I command soldiers too!” Dusknoir growled. An eerie Cyclops rose from the ground behind Mismagius and grabbed her. Politoed struck out at the Cyclops, knocking it away, but was grabbed from behind by another one. The group looked left and right and saw and endless horde of one-eyed enemies surrounding them. “This is my Dusclops army!” Dusknoir said triumphantly. “Every Dusclops that has ever lived, and every one that had ever died is here today to bear witness to the glory of the Dusk species! This is the day that I gain ultimate power!” Ike gulped and Grovyle glanced at him. “He’s full of hot air.” Grovyle said. “What is it, seven against two-thousand? I say we’ve got a chance! Politoed stepped up beside him. “Grovyle, you’re one crazy psycho… I like it! Let’s show them what we can do!” Grovyle and Politoed charged recklessly into the crowd, attacking everything in sight. Mismagius stayed back, firing Psychic blasts alongside Mesprit while Paola swung the Air Cutter. Uxie stayed silent and focused on holding up a mental barrier around them. “Did somebody call me?” The floor crumbled apart, leaving a large circular hole. Azelf and Sam floated into the room and hovered above the opening. Croagunk was perched on Sam’s shoulder. Sam gazed at the crowd of ghosts, still furiously fighting. “Stop that now!” She commanded. The crowd fell silent. “Now leave immediately!” All the Dusclops sank into the floor, leaving the room. Dusknoir fumed in anger. “You think you’ve won?” He roared, “No! Everyone will fall, even if I have to bring you into the void!” A black shadow began to seep from the mouth on Dusknoir’s belly. It slowly filled the room, making the floor indistinguishable from the ceiling and walls. “Paola!” Ike shouted, “Push that button!” Paola nodded, pulling out the small remote that she had received along with the Air Cutter, and jabbing the button with so much force that for a moment she feared she had broken it. Then the darkness began to fade away, it was like watching a puddle dissolve, only much faster. After a minute the room was back to normal. “Bah!” A Shadow Ball formed in Dusknoir’s hand and grew to an immense size. “Stop him!” A group of ice Pokemon leapt out from beneath Azelf and Sam. They raced in front of Dusknoir and each used a Protect move. “Nice work!” Azelf called to them. The leader, Froslass nodded. “Thank you sir! We can hold him off for now.” Froslass turned her attention back to Dusknoir, and she and her Ice Pokemon fought against him. “Well” Azelf floated to Uxie and Mesprit and quickly synchronized with them. “I got Froslass to help out, that’ll buy some time at least.” He said, “But I really don’t think we should fight Dusknoir here.” “Uma then?” Mesprit asked. Uxie nodded, “It sound’s like our best option.” Azelf motioned to Sam to come over. “We each need a conduit for this to work right” he said, “She already has some of my power, so I’ll be using Sam.” “I’ve connected with Grovyle already.” Mesprit said, “I’ll go get him.” “What about you?” Azelf asked Uxie, “Remember we can only bring ourselves and the conduits, so pick someone who can fight off Dusknoir.” “She already is fighting him.” Uxie said, “Frosslass, come over here!” The Ice Pokemon jumped back, keeping Dusknoir away from the others while Froslass went to Uxie. “Let’s get started” Mesprit said, returning with Grovyle who already glowed with Mesprit’s usual pink light. “Dusknoir!” Azelf called to him. “You’ve put so much focus into Uma, so we’ll take you.” “But don’t expect a fun trip.” Mesprit said. “This is the end for you Dusknoir!” Uxie shouted, “Your time is over!” The trio each fired a beam of coloured light into the back of their conduit’s head and the room began to glow with rainbow light. “No!” Dusknoir screamed, “If- if…” Dusknoir grabbed a switch on the wall and pulled the lever, snapping it off in the process. “If you take me away, this whole building will Selfdestruct! With those others still inside!” The psychic trio hesitated for a moment, and Ike called to them. “Don’t worry about that!” He said, “I can undo any tech trap he’s put into this place, no sweat!” Croagunk nodded. “Me too! You guys focus on taking down Dusknoir and lets us handle things back here.” Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf nodded in unison and let out one final burst of energy, transporting themselves, the conduits, and Dusknoir away! |

Chapter Twelve: Void Dusknoir appeared in the sinister darkness and quickly surveyed his surroundings. “What is this?” He demanded. “You said I would be taken to Uma! This is the void, it’s where I had tried to take you.” Azelf appeared from behind one of the Void’s random floating land masses. “Just as Arceus is everything, Uma is nothing.” He said. Mesprit floated to Azelf’s side. “You were stopped from taking us to the Void before by the girl Paola, not by us. We would have welcomed it actually.” “You claim Uma is nothing!” Dusknoir shouted, “That’s not right. Giratina is nothing, that’s common knowledge.” Uxie appeared behind him. “Giratina is the guardian of nothing, the guardian of the void. Just a guardian, not nothing itself.” “Then Uma is…” Dusknoir whispered. “The Void itself!” Uxie finished. “You though this place was your home turf,” Azelf said. “But it’s not” Mesprit laughed. “It’s ours!” The three Pokemon drew in the power of the void. Their colour; Uxie’s yellow, Mesprit’s pink, and Azelf’s blue darkened to match the black of the void. Dusknoir shuddered in horror, their normally bright heads could easily be seen, but the dark heads against the dark curtain of the void were nearly invisible. All there was were three pairs of angrily glowing yellow eyes. “Screech.” Mesprit’s voice echoed through the darkness followed by an ear splitting noise. Dusknoir clapped his hands over his ears and almost didn’t hear Uxie’s voice echo: “Ice Fang.” A shadowy figure leapt at Dusknoir, giving him a freezing cold bite. For a moment he saw Froslass, and then everything was dark again. “Leaf Blade” “Powder Snow” “Pursuit” “Icy Wind” “Leaf Storm” “Crunch” Again and again the shadowy figures appeared and struck out at Dusknoir, Grovyle and Froslass seemed to be alternating attacks against him. Dusknoir tried to strike back and defend himself but always found that him opponents slipped past his attacks and found holes in his defences. “Enough!” Dusknoir begged, “Please don’t hurt me anymore, I surrender!” The attacks stopped and Dusknoir breathed a sigh of relief. Then, without warning something huge collided with Dusknoir from behind and tore him to shreds! ”TRESSPASSERS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN THE VOID” Giratina roared, “YOU WILL ALL BE REMOVED FROM EXISTANCE!” |

Chapter Thirteen: Guardian “What now?” Azelf whispered as Giratina loomed over them. “Divide and survive” Uxie answered, we’ll each go a separate direction. Whoever Giratina doesn’t follow should start opening the portal back home.” Mesprit nodded, “Right. We came here to fight Dusknoir, not Giratina. The best thing to do would be leave.” The three flew in completely different directions followed by their individual conduits, and Giratina shot after the pair that passed on his left. “Mesprit!” Uxie shouted using her mind, “He’s following Azelf!” “But Sam can’t help him fight back!” Mesprit responded in alarm. “Change of plan” Uxie announced, spinning to face the way she came. “We stall Giratina, and Azelf opens the portal.” “Imprison!” Uxie and Mesprit said in unison, their psychic webs spinning past Giratina and holding him back. “YOU DARE FIGHT BACK?” Giratina roared, “I WILL DESTROY YOU BOTH!” “Giratina, please calm down!” Mesprit pleaded, trying to project happy emotions to the guardian. “I DO NOT HAVE TO REASON WITH YOU!” The large Pokemon boomed, “YOU ARE INSIGNIFICANT, YOU ARE WEAKER THAN ME, YOU HAVE COME HERE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!” He tore apart the two Imprison webs with little difficulty. “THERE IS NOTHING TO TALK ABOUT! NOW WE FIGHT TO THE END!” Azelf could hear the thunderous voice of Giratina from across the void. “Hold on just a bit longer…” he whispered as a portal the size of a grain of sand appeared between Sam’s hands and began to slowly expand. *** Politoed and Mismagius jumped from an open window on the second floor and landed on the street outside. “We’re looking for an open door or window” Politoed said, “Doesn’t have to be big, just has to be on the ground floor.” Mismagius nodded, “It stinks that Ike refuses jump down a measly one floor. I don’t know how you can stand humans.” “What’s worse is that there’s not a single Pokemon among our group that can fly him down” Politoed said. “If even one of those psychics was still here we could all float out of the glass palace and wouldn’t have to worry about it blowing up.” “We’ll just have to hope the Ike and Croagunk can stop the detonation” Mismagius said, “Come on let’s see if there’s an exit anywhere.” *** Ike and Croagunk stood in Dusknoir’s private control room. “It’s lucky this place is here” Croagunk said, “Since the old one’s still broken from what Mesprit did.” “Sort of funny that we’re both back here” Ike said, “Each of us was head researcher here once.” “I technically still am head researcher” Croagunk muttered. “I don’t think Dusknoir would keep you around if he were here” Ike joked. “Yep, but that portly poltergeist isn’t around” Croagunk said, picking up a control gauntlet. The gauntlets glowed and the walls, floor, and ceiling of the empty room flickered to life. “Building schematics” Ike said, gesturing at an empty wall with his gauntlet. A diagram of the building appeared on the wall, then slowly peeled off and floated to the centre of the room. Croagunk spread his fingers and each floor slid away from the ones above and below it, giving them a detailed view of the whole glass palace. “Woah, it’s even showing wastepaper baskets!” Ike said, moving his hand through the glowing blue phantom image. “Aren’t you glad I told you about this place?” Croagunk asked with a triumphant smile. “Hold on!” Ike was looking at an image of a high up floor on the building, “What do you think that is?” Two blurred blobs, one white and one purple, were moving through the building. “Looks like a pattern of search” he said, “They go into each room in order then leave right away.” “We’re in that one there” Croagunk said, pointing to the room at the end of the hall. “Well, here they come!” Ike spun around and the door handle twisted, opening the door. “Loudred!” Croagunk cried in surprise, “And Dave!” Their old assistants were at the door and looked surprised. “We heard the alarm go off” Loudred said. “I knew Dusknoir could blow this place up, but I actually thought he’d beat you guys and never have too.” “We’re here to help however we can” Dave said, “Neither of us wants to go down with this place.” “Sticking with the winning team huh?” Ike said, “I’d tell you off for that, but I’d probably do the same thing myself in your situation.” *** Paola and Weavile pounded on doors, but nothing would open. “This place has been locked up tight” Weavile said, “Who did you say did this?” “Dusknoir” Paola said, “But hopefully he’s gone now. Weavile closed his eyes tightly, “It’s weird, I can’t remember anything about how I got here” he said. “The last thing I remember… Well, I was a little Sneasel back in “Kasnana City. That was so long ago though.” “You’re from Kasnana?” Paola asked in surprise. “So am I!” Weavile shrugged, “Let’s hope we can get home then, we should probably try to break down a wall or two, but I don’t think it’ll work very well.” Paola took out the Air Cutter and the two found an open wall in a corner office. They both began to attack it relentlessly but did little damage. Below them; Glaceon, Jynx, and Snover were looking for exits in the basement. Paola was glad that Froslass’ team of Ice Pokemon had decided to help. Gengar’s minions and the Dusknoir army were already long gone, but somehow Paola knew that the small team of Ice Pokemon whose memories had been adjusted by Azelf would be a bigger help. “THERE ARE MORE OF YOU!?” A voice snarled, “THIS WHOLE WORLD IS TRESPASSING IN MINE! WHERE ARE YOU? I WILL DESTROY YOUR ENTIRE WORLD!” They all heard the voice, everyone in the world and in the void did, but only Azelf knew why Giratina had sensed their world. The portal had grown to the size of a basketball, “Hurry” He whispered, sending an urgent message to his sisters, “The void is sewing itself to our world!” Uxie and Mesprit turned and fled along with their conduits, they could feel the void’s hunger. Uma was trying to take their world, and that would make it Giratina’s world! The guardian’s words still echoed in their heads, Giratina would destroy everything in their world to protect his own. They had to go through the portal and seal it soon, or all their efforts would be a waste! |

Chapter Fourteen: Collapse The portal was ahead of them. Uxie, Mesprit, Grovyle, and Froslass raced towards it as Azelf urged them to hurry. Grovyle leapt through first, and Uxie pushed Froslass forwards second. Next was the most difficult part; Sam couldn’t leave without their help, but since she had opened the portal, it would begin to close as soon as she moved! The psychic trio formed a chain, connected by their tails and Uxie passed out of the void. Azelf grabbed Sam’s arm, “I’m ready!” He shouted. Giratina had almost reached them; they only had a second… Uxie pushed herself away from the portal, pulling her siblings and Sam out after her. The portal began to shrink, in seconds it had already been reduced to the size of a Pokeball. “GRRRAAAAAAAAAAHHH!” The portal shuddered and Giratina’s head forced its way through! *** “There’s nothing!” Mismagius said in dismay, circling the building for the third time. Politoed didn’t seem to hear her. “Maybe we don’t need an exit!” He said suddenly, “Listen to this.” They pressed their ears against the wall and heard it being slashed from the other side. “That must be Paola and Weavile; they’re trying to break it down.” The two stepped back, Mismagius created a Shadow Ball and Politoed produced his Iron Ball. “Let’s see if we can help them.” Mismagius said. They flung their attacks at the wall, cracking it slightly. *** Dave and Loudred found Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Froslass, Grovyle, and Sam in what had once been Shedinja’s office. Giratina roared as they entered and both of them shrank back. “Politoed, Mismagius, Weavile, and Paola are close to making an exit on the ground floor” Dave reported. “Croagunk and Ike are on the top floor though” Loudred added, “They need two of you to lift them out through a window. There isn’t enough time to go down all the stairs.” “Well… I…” Azelf gasped for breath, “Sorry, making a portal by myself was tough. Just let me sit down for a second.” “We’ll help the two on the top floor Mesprit said as she and Uxie dashed out of the room.” *** Grovyle struggled to his feet. Froslass had taken a hit at some point while they were in the void and had fainted. Next to her, Sam was also unconscious. Azelf’s creation of the portal through her must have been difficult to withstand. “Carry these two downstairs” He said to Dave and Loudred. “Take them out through the exit that’s being made.” Dave and Loudred nodded, they picked up the human and Pokemon and hurried downstairs. The only ones in the room now were Grovyle, the winded Azelf, and the head and neck of Giratina. “YOU ARE TRESSPASSING!” Giratina roared over and over. “TRESSPASSING! “Giratina listen to me!” Grovyle pleaded, “This is not your world, it’s a different world. If you would just move your head backwards the portal would close and it would no longer be trespassing!” Giratina fell silent for a moment, and then cautiously pulled his head back. “I CANNOT” he said, sounding a bit calmer. “THIS GATE IS…” Anger rose suddenly in his voice, “IT HAS GOTTEN SMALLER AND TRAPPED ME!” “It’s still shrinking” Azelf said, still sounding tired. “Then expand it for just a moment so that he can go back through” Grovyle said immediately. “I can’t” Azelf said glancing around. “Sam seems to be gone… Is she outside now?” “Then use me as a conduit” Grovyle said, “Just for a second to widen the portal.” “I don’t have enough strength left” Azelf said, “I might be able to do it by borrowing energy from you, but that could kill you.” “THEN USE MY ENERGY” Giratina was calm again and was watching them. “I STILL HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH. CHANNEL IT THROUGH HIM AND INTO THE PORTAL.” Azelf looked at Grovyle and he nodded. “Alright then, put one hand on Giratina and grab the portal with you other” Azelf instructed him. Grovyle did as he was told and he felt Azelf’s tail trace a line down his back. “Here we go…” Azelf said. “Now!” Giratina’s vast power ripped the portal open and Grovyle and Azelf were thrown back. Azelf passed out from the effort but Grovyle was able to catch him before he was knocked out of a window. “THANK YOU” Giratina said “NOW ONCE MORE I CAN MOVE.” Giratina shot forwards into their world. His shadowy wing swallowed Grovyle and Azelf, and Grovyle had only a moment to realize that Giratina had tricked them! |

Chapter Fifteen: Separate Ways Loudred and Dave reached the ground floor and saw that the wall was coated in cracks, but still not quite broken. “We just don’t have the right move to use as a finishing blow.” Weavile told them, “And something’s stopped Mismagius and Politoed’s attack on the other side!” Loudred placed Sam on the ground and cracked his knuckles, “Leave it to me” he said excitedly. “I’ll go get the Ice Pokemon that are still downstairs and tell them it’s time to leave” Dave said, placing Froslass on the ground next to Sam. “Tell them to plug their ears” Loudred said. He gave the wall a few experimental punches, and then screamed the words: “HYPER VOICE!!!” Thousands of new cracks raced across its surface. “That should do it” Loudred said, flicking the wall lightly with his finger and causing it to crumble. *** Uxie clung to Croagunk’s back, and Mesprit held on to Ike. “Here goes nothing then?” Croagunk asked. Ike grinned and nodded, and they both ran towards the window that Uxie had removed seconds earlier. They jumped out into the open air, with the city far below them. They both fell smoothly thanks to the psychic Pokemon, but after passing by almost two thirds of the floors, a wall smashed apart below them and Giratina shot out of the building! Startled by the guardian’s presence in their world, Uxie and Mesprit lost their grip for just a moment, and Ike and Croagunk began to fall for real. Giratina circled back quickly, and the two fell into its shadowy wings and disappeared. *** Politoed was fighting Shedinja when the wall broke from inside. The bug-ghost had reformed without anyone noticing and had launched a surprise attack on them, knocking out Mismagius before she even saw him. Politoed’s first reaction had been to reach for his Iron Ball, but Shedinja had moved in and stolen it from him before it could be flung. Since then Politoed had just been trying to avoid the bug-ghost’s attacks, having no moves of his own that would work. He hadn’t expected the ones inside to break the wall apart. Shedinja didn’t have time to react. Loudred, Paola, Weavile, Glaceon, Jynx, and Snover had him surrounded in seconds. “Down you go” Loudred said. Then without warning he leapt forward and struck Shedinja. “Astonish always get’s them” Loudred said triumphantly. *** Uxie and Mesprit surrounded Giratina using clones created by Double Team. “You will go back to the void Giratina” Mesprit shouted. “WAIT” Giratina bellowed. Suddenly its form began to change from the shape of a winged snake to a beast that stood on six legs. He landed on the building across from the glass palace and spread his wings. Four unconscious figures fell from their darkness onto the roof. “THIS GROVYLE HAS HELPED GIVE ME BACK MY WORLD, SO I HAVE HELPED GIVE HIS BACK TO HIM.” Uxie and Mesprit dismissed their clones in shock. “NOW, THE PORTAL HAS BEGUN TO CLOSE ONCE MORE.” Giratina glanced at them, “I DO NOT WISH TO BE DISTURBED FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS.” He roared. “BUT… MAYBE AFTER THAT, YOU THREE COULD VISIT.” “JUST ASK FIRST!” Giratina leapt off the building and flew past Uxie and Mesprit into the glass palace and the portal to his home. *** The building fell inwards; Dusknoir had placed explosives so that the explosion would cause the building to collapse in on itself. From across the street they all watched it fall. Even those who had been unconscious had recovered, some by themselves, and some with the help of Revives that Dave carried. “So I hope you can all keep this whole Uma thing a secret.” Azelf said. “If not, I could wipe your memories?” Uxie suggested. “No no, that’s not necessary” Ike said. “I’m pretty sure that everyone just wants a normal life now.” Sam nodded, “He’s right. I was actually thinking of going on a journey as a Pokemon trainer now that this is all over.” “Would you mind if I come?” Loudred asked, “Adventure and excitement sounds great compared to being a research assistant at that place.” Sam nodded, “Of course you can.” “Well, adventure is great and everything” Ike said, “But I think that I’m going to get a real job. “Now that the ghosts aren’t hunting me, I’m opening an electronics store!” “I have tons of junk to sell back home” he muttered. Then Ike glanced at the others. “Croagunk, I won’t be able to do it alone. Want to be business partners?” Croagunk shrugged, “Sure” he said casually. “I’m just going back home to my wife and kids” Dave said. “We’re going to keep an eye on Shedinja” Froslass said, speaking for herself, Glaceon, Jynx, and Snover. Maybe we can get him to change his ways.” “Paola and I are just going to go home” Weavile said, “It turns out we’re both from Kasnana City.” Politoed glanced at Mismagius and she looked back at him. Both waited for the other to speak for a few seconds. “Mismagius has actually… Asked me to move in with her!” Politoed announced. Everyone congratulated them and in just a few short minutes they had all learned each other’s phone numbers, email, or home addresses. “It’s time for us to go too” Uxie said, rising into the air. “I think we’ll travel to Sinnoh.” “But keep that a secret” Azelf added. “Hey, if you spot one of us in the future give a shout” Mesprit added cheerfully. “Bye” they all shouted, soaring off into the air. Everyone watched them go, and then one by one left to resume their own lives. *** Grovyle sat on the roof of his house. With the glass palace gone he had a clear view of the brilliant sunset. It was the last one he’d see in Pethel City, tomorrow he’d go out on his own. When he had arrived home that day there had been a letter waiting for him. Grovyle it said. We may not be enemies anymore, but don’t think I’ve forgotten you beating me. We will battle again one day, and I will win. Think of me as a rival from now on. --Gengar The others had forgotten to ask him what he was going to do after the glass palace fell, but that wasn’t important. Grovyle smiled, he knew he’d see each of them again some day. For now, there was a whole world of possibility waiting for him. The End Edited by turtlecash, Jan 28 2010, 06:13 PM.
