Chapter 1 - The Silver Snake The night was long and quiet. As the two brothers continued walking along the dirt path, wind sent chills down their bones. The full moon of the night shined down light on the dark forest. Tree frogs and chirps could be heard from the forest. The soothing sound of all the Pokemon in the forest relaxing as one created a positive aura for anyone traveling in or near the dense forest. “Jason, are we almost to dad’s hut?” “Not yet. I think we are getting close though, since we are nearing the end of this forest. Excited to see your dad after seven years of separation by war?” “Yes. It’s been so lonely at mom’s shack. So quiet, especially after mom was taken by one of the raiding parties. I wish this war never happened. I hate how it has torn our family.” “Don’t feel too bad. War always creates tension and separation. Our family is amongst the hundreds of families who have dealt separation. But moving on from that subject, have you been training for your battle with dad?” “Yeah, I think I am ready to take on dad and is Gliscor. I’ve trained extra hard in the dark night for months now. Chimchar can take a Gliscor any day.” “Just remember not to go easy on dad and his Gliscor. The two have survived this war for seven years for a reason, you know? Gliscor knows how to keep enemies away from its weak spots.” Just then a rustling in the bushes to the left could be heard. The two brothers stopped and readied their Pokemon for battle. After a moment of silence, a Rhyhorn popped out of the bushes, running towards Jason in a fast pace. “Jason, look out!” the younger boy wailed. Jason just smiled a dark grin and called out his one Pokemon. The shining light of the Pokemon coming out of its ball made Jason and his brother close their eyes for a moment. When they opened them, Jason’s mighty Drapion stood before them. “Drapion, use your pincers to stop that Rhyhorn in its tracks!” ordered Jason. Drapion jumped one top of the small Rhyhorn and grabbed it by its two hind feet. The Rhyhorn screeched for help from anyone or anything as Drapion flung it around harshly towards a large stone. Rhyhorn collided with the stone hard, making a dent in both the stone and the Pokemon’s armor. Drapion roared out at Rhyhorn, sending a clear warning not to mess with him again. “Drapion, well played. Now return to my side!” Jason recalled Drapion, then looked smugly at the injured Rhyhorn. The two brothers just walked away as the Pokemon limped into the woods. As they continued on down the path towards their father’s home, dawn approached. The sun rose silently in the cool, morning breeze. The quiet chirps and croaks of the night evaporated into the misty morning air, turning into loud cries from the early birds. The two boys could now see each other clearly in the morning sunlight. Jason had on a forest-based camouflage jacket on. It had dirt stains on the chest and tears in the left sleeve. On his head, a dark green cap with a J blended in with his thick, black hair. His hair was greasy from battle, and his ears were buried in the black hair. His face was tanned from obvious long times in the summer sun. Endless beatings from the sun’s rays have tanned his skin, making him much darker than most folk around the Hoenn region. Jason’s black jeans were tearing in several spots, battered by battle and his treks across the rough land. His boots were a deep black, tainted with mud. The laces were tearing everywhere. On Jason’s brother, scars of the war were apparent. His face was as dark as his brother’s, and his clothes were tearing in several areas. His black leather jacket had holes on the shoulders and in the back, and the white shirt underneath was stained with dirt and other liquids. His pants were a deep blue, and were lacking a bottom half. They had been torn badly, leaving half of his legs exposed. His shoes were similar, if not the same to Jason’s. His hair was gone, having been shaved. The deep colors of brown could be seen on his dark skull. “Jason, that building over there. Is that dad’s!?” Jason looked up at the building, and screamed out, “OH MY GOSH, IT IS! WE MADE IT GABE! WE MADE IT!” Jason started running and crying, so happy to see the hut in eye view. Gabe just laughed and chased after Jason. After a week of travel from Cinnabar, the two brothers and made it. “Jason, wait up for me, haha!” As Jason ran off, a dark growl could be heard by Gabe. The ground shook, causing Gabe to fall to the ground. A large figure rose from an opening trench, roaring in rage at the sight of Gabe. “Uh, J-Jason, h-h-help!” The dark figure roared and shot out beams at Gabe. It screeched out in extreme anger and coiled around Gabe ferociously. “Chimchar, come out and fight, please help me!” Gabe pleaded. Chimchar jumped out of Gabe’s belt, cheering before realizing what was coiling around it’s master. Jason looked back and stared in shock and awe as the massive Pokemon rose from the ground and continued to coil around Gabe. “Chimchar attack this thing!” Chimchar just stared at the huge beast, then saw it’s master being smothered by the monster’s coiling body. Chimchar, in anger and will to protect it’s master, began attacking the large Steelix. Chimchar shot out hot flames at the Pokemon, but Steelix just shook off the attack. Steelix shot a dragonbreath attack at Chimchar, Chimchar barely dodging the green flames emitting from Steelix’s large gaping mouth. “Gabe, hold on!” Jason yelled to his helpless brother. Jason started running towards the huge steel snake-like creature, then sent out his Drapion. “Drapion, stop that Steelix from crushing my brother!” Jason ordered. Drapion nodded and started towards the Steelix, using all kinds of attacks on the Pokemon. None of Drapion’s poisonous attacks could penetrate Steelix’s armor. Chimchar hopped onto Drapion’s head, and together they launched attacks. Chimchar launched out of it’s tiny mouth hot, glowing, burning flames at Steelix. Drapion launched out of it’s pincers a pin missile attack. The attacks combined, the missiles being engulfed by flames. Steelix cried out as the attacks struck it in the face. Steelix growled as it backed away from the two Pokemon, releasing Gabe. It stared down at all three, and nodded. Gabe knew what to do now. He pulled out a ball from his belt, and threw it at Steelix. Steelix happily squealed as it went inside the ball. “Gabe, that was simply amazing! You just caught a powerful Steelix!” Jason exclaimed. Gabe smiled, then looked behind Jason, smiling even bigger at the man behind Drapion and Chimchar. “Hey, dad.” |

Chapter 2- The War and the Sky “Hello, Gabe. Jason.” Gabe and Jason stared at the man in red robes with big smiles. They teared up and ran towards him, hugging him, telling him how much they missed him. “It’s so good to see you boys! Where’s your mother, Edna?” “Dad, she was captured by a raiding party in Cinnabar, back in Kanto. I tried to stop them, but they were too powerful. I’m sorry.” “Don’t feel down on yourself, Gabe. You tried, so that’s what matters. We’ll find Edna, but first, how about we rest in my hut? That was some battle you had there. Nice work on capturing the monster, Gabe. It’ll help in resisting the armies in this war.” Gabe smiled as he recalled Chimchar to his ball. Drapion went back into it’s ball too, and the two brothers walked up to the hut with their father to catch up on old times. “So, boys, what all has happened after I left Kanto?” the father asked. Jason hesitated as he looked his father in the eyes, and then started, “Kanto is split into several parts now because of the war. Most of the southern coast is controlled by a raiding party known as the Southern Raiders, and the harbor of Vermilion is in control of Lt. Surge and his small militia. Vermillion is kind of the last safe place in Kanto. Diglett and Dugtrio have worked with the people there to build walls around the city to keep out unwanted people and Pokemon. It’s where my army base was. The areas down the eastern coast is in control of the Fire Tribe. They are using the waters there to bring in more troops from Sinnoh. Most of the northern parts of Kanto are split into different tribes. No one tribe owns that large area. As for the western strip of routes and the Viridian Forest, most of it is controlled by Team Rocket. Team Rocket has used this war to take charge, and they control all of Johto and are trying to take Kanto. They struggle, but the small strip of land in Kanto they have is helping them take over Kanto. Them having Indigo Plateau isn’t the best either. “Damn. Didn’t realize Team Rocket was even existent anymore after Giovanni disappeared. Guess they love this war if it gets them power. How about Sinnoh? You said something about the Fire Tribes coming from there, right?” “Yes. The Fire Tribes are groups of people who rely solely on the power of industrial machinery and fire Pokemon. Their headquarters are in Sinnoh, based at the old Fuego Iron Works. The Fire Tibes have control of all of Sinnoh, except for Snowpoint. That city is resisting with their new found powerful protectors.” “How’s Unova?” “No one knows really. We can’t get in contact with anyone there and we have no clue who might be taking control. Unova has been a shadow in this war, really.” “Hope those people are doing okay. Castelia, being the big city and port it is, is probably a hot spot for control in Unova.” “Enough from me, dad, how’s Hoenn holding up? Me and Gabe had little resistance when we entered through Slateport. We stuck to the shadows but noticed relative calmness among the people we saw. We were more surprised not to be attacked by anyone on our long trek over here. Much more peaceful than the boat ride. Speed boats in enemy waters are death traps, let me tell you.” “Hoenn isn’t doing well. People have taken the advantage of war and there is a new group, Team Ariel, who are controlling most of Hoenn. They control the skies, and the only areas of Hoenn they don’t have in their dirty clutches are Dewford Town and the southwestern portions of Hoenn.Defenses are thinning though, so I expect to see the armies of Team Ariel to march around here within the next two or three weeks.” Gabe and Jason frowned at the news from dad. This war has destroyed the society that was built in the regions of their world. “Dad, what should we do?” Gabe asked. Dad just stared down at Gabe in dismay. “I don’t know, son. Your father, Lee Roberts, does not know. Unbelievable, right?” “Dad, we need to get out of Hoenn.” Jason commented. “And how the hell do you expect to do that, Jason? Team Ariel controls the skies and like you said, taking a boat is hell out there!” Lee yelled. He sipped down a cold cup of coffee as he rubbed his bald head, looking for answers in these hard times. “I heard people talking in Slateport. Talk about some rebels northeast. Moose Deeper I think.” Gabe said. “Mossdeep City.” Jason corrected Gabe. “I’ve heard of them. They are holding up good on their fairly small island. Team Ariel wants control of the space and airports on the island, but the rebels put up a good fight. I hear the leader of the rebel group has a powerful team of Pokemon that single-handily fend off all sky attacks.” “Dad, we need to go to Mossdeep. At least that city is safe. If we can get there, maybe we can find a way to sneak our way back into Kanto, then into Vermillion! Vermillion is the safest place in the world right now!” Jason persuaded. “It’s worth a shot. You boys prepare yourselves. I’m going out back. Need to get my Pokemon ready.” Gabe and Jason smiled, and went out the hut front door. They stared out at the view from the hilltop. They could see the cities of Rustboro and Verdanturf on their own sides of the mountains. Lee came around from the back of the hut, and pointed north, and began walking. The three men walked for a couple days without speaking, watching out for raiders or Team Ariel members. They watched the skies as Swellow and Taillow flew above-head, enjoying the warm, summer air. After a few days of walking, Gabe finally broke the silence streak. “Dad, where are we going to to get to Mossdeep?” “Lilycove City. An impressive city and port on the northwestern tip of Hoenn. I suspect after passing the ruins of Oldale, we are closing in on Mauville City. From there we’ll have to go east and then turn north and go over Mt. Pyre. Fortree is too dangerous.” “Why is it too dangerous, dad?” Jason asked. “Fortree used to be Team Ariel’s main headquarters before they took Sootopolis and moved their main base there. Team Ariel was just a small group of people at first, long before the war. They believed they deserved control of the skies, so they worshipped Rayquaza.” “What’s Rayquaza?” Gabe asked. “A green dragon that rules the skies of Hoenn.” Jason quickly asked. “Right,” Lee started, “And Team Ariel wants Rayquaza. When the war spread to Hoenn, Team Ariel rose to power, gaining control of most of Hoenn. Fortree was their base, having the gym as a hiding spot for them after the gym leader there was called out to fight in the war over in Kanto. Then they moved to Sootopolis.” “Sootopolis? The volcano city? Why would they move there, dad?” Gabe questioned. “Sootopolis is the ancient city, so to speak. It has the Cave of Origin, where it is believed they can summon Rayquaza. I know where Rayquaza really is, but that isn’t important, nor should it be said out in the open air where Team Ariel could hear me, haha!” Gabe and Jason laughed. The trio came upon a route going straight north. In the distance they could see lights from a city. It was Mauville. The trio smiled and began running towards the city, happy to see lights. It must not be abandon if there were lights! Lee stopped in his tracks quickly however, stopping his boys too. “What is it, dad?” Gabe and Jason asked simultaneously. “Team Ariel.” Lee said sternly. He pointed to Mauville. From the point on which they stood, they saw massive steel walls, with the Team Ariel insignia engraved on it. |

Chapter 3 - Rescued and Captured It was dusk. Smoke billowed from Mauville as if massive fires raged in the city. The massive metal gates gave off the clear sign that Team Ariel wanted no one in Mauville. Troops could be seen guarding the gate entrance, in guard posts on the walls, and in the skies on Flygon and Salamence. The two brothers and Lee suddenly had lost some hope they had built up on there trek to Mossdeep. “Dad, what do we do? We need to go east from Mauville. Do we bypass it?” Jason asked. “No, Jason. We need to get in that city. I have a feeling my friend is in there.” “Friend? Who are they?” Gabe asked. “His name is Bane. He’s a solo fighter in this war. He helped me in some tough times here in Hoenn, and went off to fight Team Ariel. Said something about Mauville and his own base there. Guess he’s Team Ariel property now.” Jason started, “We need to move-” “NO Jason. We must rescue Bane!” Lee shouted in anger. Jason took a step back from his father. “Dad, we can’t risk it in Mauville! We need to move!” “No, Jason. We need to help Bane. He can help us!” Lee stood there, staring at the city, knowing he could rescue his friend if he could get in there. He reached for his belt, and grabbed a dusty old ball. He called out a Pokemon. Before the trio, stood a mighty bird. It roared out with courage at it’s old master. “Boys, meet Tropius.” “Wow, what a Pokemon, dad!” Gabe said. He stared at the mighty grass creature. “Alright boys. Hop on. We have a rebel to rescue!” The boys smiled and hopped on Tropius, Lee following. Tropius took off with a couple mighty flaps of its wings, flying high in the air towards Mauville. “Gabe, have Chimchar sit on Tropius’ back to attack any agents of Team Ariel! Jason, if you have your Honchkrow send it out to help protect us!” Gabe and Jason sent out their two Pokemon Lee wanted. Chimchar readied its flames and Honchkrow and Tropius watched for attackers. As the group approached the gates, heavy resistance could be felt. Team Ariel launched several attacks of all kinds. Ice Beams, Flamethrowers, Bullet Seeds, and Hydro Pumps were shot at the group. The attacks proved worthless, however, because the Pokemon of the trio protected them. Chimchar absorbed the flames with its mouth and destroyed the Ice Beam attacks. Honchkrow shot down most of the seed attacks with Dark Pulse. Tropius took out the water attack with Bullet Seed. “Excellent work, guys! Now, into the city!” Lee ordered. Tropius and the group flew into the city, resisting all attacks from Team Ariel. The sky around the group was under heavy fire as Team Ariel shot several attacks, each being destroyed or absorbed by Lee, Jason, and Gabe’s Pokemon. “Tropius, down there, at the gym, that’s where Bane probably is! Shoot us through the ceiling with Ariel Ace!” Tropius dove down like a bullet into the old gym of Mauville, quickly rushing in. The group landed in the gym, attacks still being thrown into the now darkened sky. Tropius and Honchkrow watched the hole in the ceiling for attackers while Chimchar watched the door. Lee and his boys ran to the back of the gym. The building was a wreck, with cracked walls and sandbags everywhere. It was evident this was a war zone before. “Bane? Are you here, man?” Lee shouted. His voice echoed on the gym walls. “Lee? Is that really you?” a voice asked. A tall, slick man revealed himself, hiding behind an old pole in the gym. He smiled at the sight of Lee. “What are you doing here, man? These your proud kids you wouldn’t shut up about?” Bane jokingly said. Lee laughed and hugged Bane. “Bane, we came to get you out of Mauville!” “Get me out? Why!? I’m safe in hiding here, Lee!” “Bane, I am worried about you. Me and my boys are fleeing to Mossdeep. Rebels have managed to keep that place safe from Team Ariel. From there we are going to Vermillion. Vermillion is the safest place left here in the world!” “I have heard tales of Vermillion being safe. I guess I could come. Mossdeep is where my family is!” Lee smiled and looked at Tropius. “Think you can carry one more, buddy?” Tropius grinned at Lee, and readied them all to get on her. The four quickly saddled up on Tropius, and the group flied off. Team Ariel was searching the skies for them, and as soon as Tropius was up in the air again, the attacks began again. Honchkrow and Chimchar tried their best to protect Tropius as powerful attacks were thrown at her. As the group neared the walls, an ice beam hit one of Tropius’ wings, sending it down to the ground. It moaned in pain at the frozen wing it had. Honchkrow and Chimchar stood in front of Tropius. The group had literally crashed into the gate doors. Team Ariel troops surrounded the group. “Chimchar, defrost Tropius’ wing, now!” Gabe ordered. Chimchar began shooting small flames at the ice on Tropius. Flygons and Salamences surrounded the group above their heads as ground troops with Dodrio surrounded them. Tropius’ wing was completely defrosted, but Team Ariel had the group surrounded completely. The only way out was by destroying the gate behind. “Steelix, destroy the gate doors!” Gabe ordered. Steelix came out and roared as it began crashing against the large metal doors. The enemies launched attacks at the group, but Chimchar absorbed the flames as usual and Honchkrow and Tropius used their wings to deflect the other attacks. Steelix kept hitting the door as troops kept attacking. Finally the door busted open. Lee and his group ran for the now open exit as more attacks were launched at them. Tropius grabbed Lee, Jason, and Bane and took off with Honchkrow. Chimchar, Steelix, and Gabe stared up as his family and new friend seemingly abandon him. “Tropius, you forgot Gabe! Go back!” Jason ordered. Tropius cried out as it tried to fly down to Gabe, but attacks blocked the airspace between Gabe and his family. Team Ariel grabbed Gabe and pulled him back into the city, dragons and birds blocking Lee and his group from getting to Gabe. Gabe screamed out for help from his family. He watched as Steelix was pulled down by Team Ariel troops, and Chimchar was caged. He started to cry. He knew he would be killed. |

Chapter 4 - Aromas for the Mind The fires from the battle that had ensued hours earlier continued to die down as the night went on. Team Ariel soldiers dragged Gabe to there Mauville base, Chimchar and Steelix being pulled behind. The warriors had no facial expressions, and they were green robes. Their hoods covered their hair, and they held on their backs a single blade for defense. Gabe stared one in the eye, the man just smiling smugly back at him. The troops walked inside a large dome that had been made from scrap metal, obviously being made by Team Ariel. As the troops took Gabe inside he saw a huge space for their dragons to fly around and guard the domed area. Troops watched the Pokemon carefully, staring down at Gabe and evilly laughing. “Heh, another man to change into our ways, eh, Rick?” Gabe heard. Two men were laughing as they watched Gabe being dragged to the back of the building. “Stand up.” one troop said. He jerked Gabe’s arm to a large steel door. Gabe stood up weakly. “Where are my Pokemon? What the hell are you doing with me?” Gabe asked angrily. The troops he faced said nothing. “Go through the door and listen to what the chamber master says. He will not hesitate to decapitate you should you disobey.” the troop ordered. Gabe, horrified at what he just heard, stepped cautiously through the steel door as it opened. The room was dark, with one small lamp lit, hanging from the ceiling. “Sit down in the chair.” a deep voice ordered. Gabe did not hesitate to obey. Two troops brought in Chimchar, still caged. Steelix was pulled in, unconscious. The two Pokemon sat there, in front of Gabe. “Your name is Gabe, correct?” the voice asked. “Yes.” Gabe answered. “My name is Neil. I am your master, and I will mold you into a Team Ariel soldier. Guards, leave now.” “Yes, my master.” the two said in harmony. They quickly walked out of the room, closing the large steel door behind them. “Gabe, where are you from?” Neil asked. “I’m from Cinnabar Island, in the Kanto Region.” “Ah, I assume you descend from the Roberts family, correct?” “How did you know, Neil?” “I know your father. He escaped my clutches but you will not. Now then, on with the questions. What tribe are you part of from Kanto? The Southern Raiders?” “No, I’m not with anyone really. I just fight to stay alive in this bloody war. I guess you could call me a rebel, someone looking to make things right again, someone who misses the past?” “I see. I respect your goals, however if you intend to be part of my militia you must forget those goals.” “I don’t intend to join you, Neil!” “Yes, you will. In do time, you will.” Neil smiled at Gabe, then sent out an Alakazam. “Alakazam, Psywave attack, but keep it light.” Alakazam stared into the eyes of Gabe, letting out a wave of psychic energy. Gabe felt dizzy, his mind starting to strain to grasp reality again. “Gabe, you are an elite soldier of Team Ariel. Gabe, you are an elite soldier of Team Ariel. Gabe, you are an elite soldier of Team Ariel. There is no war, only the goal to find Rayquaza. There is no war, only the goal to find Rayquaza. There is no war, only the goal to find Rayquaza.” Neil repeated. “I am an elite soldier of Team Ariel. There is no war, only the goal to find Rayquaza.” Gabe said, sounding nearly drunk. “Well said, Gabe, well said.” “Dad, we have to save Gabe!” Jason said. Lee looked at the walls of Mauville in despair. He knew what Team Ariel did to its subjects that were captured in battle. He looked Tropius in the eyes, Tropius knowing what Lee needed and wanted to do. “Bane, you’re with me. Jason, keep Team Ariel busy. Tropius will help you.” Lee said calmly. Lee and Bane ran towards the shadows of the trees as they approached the now broken Mauville Wall gates. Jason flew into the city once again, shouting out rude remarks to Team Ariel. As expected, Team Ariel began attacking Jason. Lee and Bane snuck in the broken gate, and hid behind a building. “Bane, do you know where Team Ariel’s city base is?” “Yes, it’s in the north end of town. It’s a huge dome building, we can’t miss it!” The two old men dashed to the northern edge, dodging the guards, who were busy with Jason flying overhead. They saw the large dome building, and then looked at each other. “How do we get inside, Bane?” Lee asked. “Easy. We blow a hole in the roof.” Bane smiled at Lee and sent out an impressive Pokemon. It roared into the night sky, then stared down at its master. “Charizard, burn us a hole in that damn building! And be ready to fight Team Ariel!” Charizard roared, and flew Lee and Bane up to the roof, burning a hole in the scrap metal. Charizard then launched a smokescreen, blinding the personnel inside. Lee jumped off Charizard, telling Bane to keep up the good work. “Altaria, free Gabe from Neil!” Lee ordered. An Altaria shot out of Lee’s belt, blasting through the steel door Gabe had gone through earlier. Neil laughed at the sight of Altaria, and smiled when Gabe took no notice to the majestic Pokemon. “Gabe, prove your loyalty to me. Have your Steelix bring down Altaria!” Neil ordered. Gabe stood, looking half asleep, and pointed at Altaria, then stared into Steelix’s eyes. Steelix, not knowing that Altaria was an ally, attacked Altaria with a dragonbreath, then with a slamming Iron Tail. Altaria fell to the ground, moaning from the harsh attacks it just took. “Altaria! Gabe, why did you have Steelix attack my precious Altaria!” “Because it is what the master wanted, father. Steelix, capture this enemy of Team Ariel!” Gabe exclaimed. Steelix coiled around Lee, creating a tight bind. Neil stared grimly into Lee’s eyes. “Neil, let my boy go and I’ll work for you! I swear it!” Lee pleaded. “How about I just enslave you as well? Alakazam, Psywave!” Alakazam readied another attack, but was quickly knocked into the wall by a flame. Charizard roared at the sight of Neil, and used its flames on Steelix.Bane ran into the chamber, horrified at the look on Gabe’s face. “Bane, Neil has brainwashed Gabe! We need to snap him out of it with your Gloom!” “Right, Gloom, come out and aid us!” Bane screamed out. A Gloom danced out, smiling at Bane. “Gloom, tackle that boy over there, and make sure he smells your scent! It’s not too late for him!” Gloom jumped onto Gabe, knocking him down. It smothered his nose in its scent. Gabe then stood up, feeling dizzy at first. He looked at his father and Bane, then back at Neil, who was grunting angrily at what just transpired. “Gabe, run!” Lee said. Lee and Gabe ran, recalling their Pokemon. “Bane,” Lee called, “We need to run, Jason can’t hold those goons off in the city forever!” “No, you go. We will meet in Mossdeep. Me and Neil have a score to settle.” Bane stood firmly, staring at Neil. He recalled his Charizard, as Neil recalled Alakazam. “Good to see you again, Bane. Glalie needs a good fight.” A large Glalie popped out of another ball from Neil. It stared down at Gloom menacingly. “Gloom, petal dance!” Gloom danced around in a plethora of pink petals, and shot them at Glalie. Glalie blew the attack away with a chilling Icy Wind. “Glalie, use your Blizzard attack!” “Gloom use stun spore!” Gloom shot out spores at Glalie, while Glalie blew out blasts of chilling cold air at Gloom. The attacks landed on each Pokemon. Glalie fell to the ground, immobilized by Gloom’s stun spores, and Gloom ached all over from the cold blast it had just endured. “Glalie may be stunned, but I’m not done. Get ‘em boys.” Neil said smugly. Behind Bane, two soldiers whacked him in the back of his head with a metal bar. Bane collapsed, unconscious. Neil bagged Gloom, and laughed. “One down, three to go.” |

Chapter 5 - The Race East Jason and Tropius followed Lee and Gabe as they ran out of the city, which was now after the two after causing so much trouble in their base. Salamence and Flygon shot down attacks at the two, but they were able to dodge the beams and jumped through the broken gates. The two then started running towards a ditch Lee and Jason were in before when they planned the rescue. Team Ariel stopped pursuing once the two had fled the city, being more concerned about their damaged gates. Jason landed in the ditch with Tropius. “Dad, what do we do now?” Jason asked. He scratched his head then sat down on the dirt. Lee moaned in pain and grief. “Gabe, Jason, we are going to go east,” he started, “I think we can make it to Mt. Pyre within two days if we move quickly. We’ll need to stick to the shadows, and avoid open areas, because we’ll be in Team Ariel territory. There’s a rebel hut midway east we can rest at. Once there we can rest for a few hours, then get moving again.” Gabe and Jason looked at each other, then at Lee. They all three knew there was danger in this run towards the east. Tropius went back into its Pokeball, and the trio began walking, sticking to the dark shadows of the brush and trees. As the sun beat down on the trio, Jason was sweating like a dog. The heat of the summer was brutal in this part of Hoenn, and even Lee was getting tired of it. The trio had been walking since dawn, but they had just passed the route switch to go to Fortree. “Dad, Jason, I think we all are boiling. How about we let Piplup water us down for a cool off guys?” Lee and Jason both grinned at the idea of a waterfall in their faces. Gabe knew that the smiles were a yes, so he sent out his Piplup, asking it to use water gun in the air. The water sprayed from Piplup’s beak, and splashing back down on the trio. The water felt good on their faces, cooling them down. “Gabe, where did you get a Piplup?” Lee asked. Gabe laughed at the memory and started, “Well, Piplup was originally kidnapped from its trainer in Johto, being taken by Team Rocket. It had escaped somehow and found its way to me when I visited Oak in Pallet. Oak told me it had been injured and separated, so I took it to take care of it. I hope to find its trainer soon. After a while me and Piplup bonded to be really close, and now we watch each other closely.” “Wow Gabe, cool story. Must have been a while ago since Pallet is in Team Rocket control today.” Jason said. Gabe nodded at Jason’s remark, then looked at Piplup. The trio looked at each other, then decided to get walking. They were still a long way from the rest hut, and farther from Mt. Pyre. Piplup would keep them cool while they moved. Later in the evening, the trio broke down from the pain in their legs. They had been walking for at least twelve hours now, and were tired from all the walking, running, and sneaking they’ve had to do. Piplup had gone back to its Pokeball after it got tired a few hours ago. Gabe looked at his brother and dad, then sat down on the grassy path they had been walking on for hours. “Dad, I am so tired! Are we going to reach the rest house anytime soon?” Gabe moaned. Lee looked down at Gabe. “Yeah, actually, I think it is just over this hill!” Gabe jumped up and ran to the top of the hill. Jason followed, wanting to keep his brother close and safe, with Lee following to do the same. Gabe raced down to a hut with light, Jason and Lee following, trying to whisper to Gabe to slow down so they wouldn’t attract team Ariel attention. Finally Gabe reached the hut, Jason and Lee arriving just a second later. “Gabe, next time, wait up!” Jason screamed. The door to the lit hut opened, and a woman and a Kabutops shined in the light. “Who the hell are you three!?” The woman asked. Lee stepped forward. “The Toxicroak screams at Snorlax. Hello Laura.” The woman smiled at Lee, and said, “Hello Lee. Good to see you. This guys must be with you if you aren’t holding them off with that Gliscor of yours! Come on in!” The trio stepped inside the hut. Lights were strung around, and in the corner was a gas stove and refrigerator. Kabutops sat down in an old leather chair, relaxing near the fire. A Gible lay on Kabutops lap. “Who’s this dad? An old war friend?” Jason asked. “Jason, this is Laura. She is Bane’s sister, and has keep this rest hut safe from intruders for two years now.” “Wow! Bane has a sister? Awesome! Nice to meet you Laura!” Laura smiled at the young man, and then looked down at Gabe. “You look like your father, but more like your mother, Edna. How are you Gabe? I remember protecting you from Team Ariel a few years back when you were just a youngin’ wondering in the woods.” “You took care of me? Sorry, but I don’t remember you ma’am.” “Haha, that’s okay. So long as you’re safe, I’m happy! Please sit and relax! Tell me about your travels boys!” The three sat on a leather couch near the fire as Laura prepared sandwiches and milk. “I suppose you might want to know why we are here, Laura.” Lee assumed. “We are going to Mossdeep to escape from Hoenn. Right now we’re running east towards Mt. Pyre so we can get through it and go to Lilycove.” Laura sat down, handing the trio sandwiches and glasses of milk. Gabe and Jason dug in as Lee talked with Laura. “Mr. Pyre? I hear that place is crawlin’ with Team Ariel freaks. Them guys with big blades and Draognites were marchin’ to the mountain. I heard they were looking for the Green Orb or something.” “Shit. They must know about the Green Orb chamber in Mt. Pyre. If they get the Green Orb and use it at Sky Pillar, Team Ariel will have no problem taking the rest of Hoenn over with a new Rayquaza.” “Lee, you need to stop them freaks! Before we all bow down to Kate for our lives!” “I know Laura. I think my Pokemon team could handle them. Gliscor and Tropius are tough. Want to see Gliscor?” “Sure do honey! Let me see that fella!” Lee reached onto his belt and let out a Gliscor. It stood tall and proud on its tail, and snapped its pincers. “Well hot damn this little thing looks fine! Hi Gliscor, how are you tonight? I remember when you were just a Gligar!” Gliscor smiled at Laura. Gabe and Jason finished their snack. “Dad, if Team Ariel is at Mt. Pyre, we can all team up and stop them. Chimchar, Piplup, and Steelix will help!” Gabe said. “And Drapion, Honchkrow, and Sceptile can take on the freaks too!” Jason exclaimed. “Boys, settle down, we will all defeat Team Ariel, I promise. But first, I owe my son, Gabe, a battle. Gliscor, ready to take on Chimchar?” Gliscor danced at the idea, then flew out the door to the front in excitement. “Gliscor, come back! We don’t fight until dawn!” Lee ordered. Gliscor flew back in and laid down on the floor, going to sleep in an instant. Tomorrow would be Gabe’s chance to prove himself to his father. As the sun rose over the grassy hills, Gabe and his father raced out to the front with Chimchar and Gliscor behind. The two were excited for their battle. “This battle will be a one-on-one Pokemon battle! No substitutions, obviously. Begin!” Laura announced. “Alright, Gabe, you go first, I insist my boy!” Gabe smiled along with Chimchar. “Flame Wheel on Gliscor’s wings Chimchar!” Chimchar rolled into a flaming ball, heading straight for the wings of Gliscor. Chimchar slammed into the wings fast and furious, Gliscor crying in pain. “Excellent! Gliscor use Ariel Ace!” Gliscor jumped into the air and shot like a bullet into Chimchar. Chimchar stood up from the hit, and shot back with no hesitance. A Flamethrower struck Gliscor in the tail, burning it. Gliscor was weakened from the Flame Wheel in the wings, and now Gliscor couldn't sit on its tail because of a bad burn. Gliscor instead landed on its feet. “Well done Chimchar! Use your ember attack to finish it off!” Chimchar stood silently, staring down at Gliscor. Lee was just as confused as Gabe. Why was Chimchar not attacking. Suddenly, Chimchar lit up. It grew taller, a flaming tail, and screamed out in enthusiasm its new name. “MONFERNO!” Gabe grinned hugely at what had just happened. “Monferno, awesome! Use ember!” Monferno shook its finger at Gabe, and instead ran towards Gliscor, who was still on its feet from its burned tail. Monferno struck Gliscor in the face with a furious Mach Punch, knocking it out. Gabe danced in happiness. “Well done Gabe! You’ve won! Haha nice job Monferno!” Lee exclaimed. Gliscor laid down on the ground, tired and burned from the battle before. After resting and having breakfast, the trio decided to leave. “We will stop Team Ariel Laura, do not fear!” Lee said. Laura just smiled and waved at the three boys as they walked east. |
