Chapter 1 -~- Mad House The evening began its transition into the dark night as the sunlight disappeared. The moon, at its full phase, shined down on the forest floor, parts being overshadowed by the tall branches of the trees. It was a flawless night, with millions of stars in the sky. A perfect night for camping. “If what you say is true, Desmond, then we are only hours away from eternal freedom. That is, however, if your convoy can get here on time without any trouble from the local militia. You are sure you have taken the precautions for that slim chance?” “Yes sir, all of my men in the convoy have the abilities needed to get through defenses. All we have to do is listen to the sweet sound of freedom as it knocks down our prison doors.” “Even so, they have never experienced the power of the Brazilian Militia and the prison guards here at The Mad House. They built this place for me, afterall.” “I know. So do they. You need not worry about my men’s capabilities. Their skills are equal to those of American forces such as SEAL Team Six.” BOOM! “Galileo, they are here. Our salvation has arrived.” Galileo and Desmond rose from their bunks and looked out into the long halls of their prison sector. Guards who were armed with AK74u SMGs and riot gear swarmed the sector, weapons raised. “Get back! Get back! Sit down facing the wall with your hands over your head! We will not hesitate to shoot your knees! Get the fuck back!” the guards ordered. Galileo and Desmond both followed orders, preparing for what was about to come to them: freedom. An explosion was heard across the room, and a stun grenade was tossed in front of the heavily armed guards. It went off, stunning nearly everyone. Galileo smiled grimly as Desmond’s convoy moved in, ruthlessly killing the guards. Prisoners rioted, demanding release from the assailants. “No one is leaving. We are only here for Galileo and Desmond. You get near us with your filthy hands, we won’t hesitate to kill you. Now shut your damn mouths and back away from your cell doors. Galileo, sir, we are ready for your escape. If you would follow us we will get you to our vehicles.” Galileo looked into the assailant’s eyes. He began, “My dear boy, we are not near done here. We must send a message to all who learn of my escape. Now, you and Desmond, accompany me. We must meet with the Warden.” Desmond just nodded along to what Galileo said. “What is your name?” Galileo asked. “Barnes.” the man answered. He hesitated, intimidated by Galileo’s glare. “Well then, Desmond, Barnes, come with me.” Galileo picked up a loaded AK74u and ran towards the sector exit. Barnes’ men looked at each other, puzzled at what had just happened with the man who they thought they were freeing. Galileo led his small group through the prison, walking around bodies that Barnes and his team had apparently killed earlier. Moonlight shined through prison windows. Desmond and Barnes prepared themselves for whatever mutiny Galileo was planning for the Warden. Finally, the trio reached a thick, iron door. The word “WARDEN” was engraved on each side of the door, its handles being carved from what looked like gold. Galileo motioned for Desmond and Barnes to each open the doors. The two obeyed, grabbing a handle. Galileo readied his weapon. The doors crept open, creaking from rust and ware. The Warden looked up from his desk, a .44 Magnum in his hand. A shot went off, hitting Barnes in the skull. He fell over dead in just seconds, blood splattering all over the floor. “Shit, Barnes! Galileo, kill that son-of-a bitch! Do it!” Desmond exclaimed. The Warden stood up, awaiting Galileo’s next move. Galileo just looked at the two, and smiled. “Unfortunately, Desmond, I know who you are. I know why you were put into my cell. And I know everything I could ever need to know about the American CIA. My allegiance with you is terminated, but I do graciously thank you for the assistance. Vance, if you would finish the child off with a painless headshot, please?” The Warden nodded, shooting Desmond in the skull. He fell to the ground, next to Barnes’ lifeless body. Galileo walked over the two bodies, extending his hand out to the Warden. “Galileo, sir, the explosive charges are set. All that needs to happen to ensure your escape is my death and the destruction of this prison. Your Osprey is ready when you are.” “Vance, you are someone I will truly remember when I sit in the Oval Office.” Galileo shook Vance’s hand, and began his way to the roof access hatch. He climbed into an osprey, where a team of Brazilian rebels were awaiting his orders. “Well boys, we’re going home. Set a course for Cuba. We have business to settle!” Galileo ordered. As the osprey took off and flew over the horizon, the Mad House exploded, flames engulfing its ruins and the forest around it. --- |
