"Sometimes you just gotta go for style points."

Okay, a brief backstory on this: I wrote this last year in Creative Writing, the assignment being to write a sci-fi short story. It took me a while to come up with an idea, just because I had watched and read so much sci-fi that basically everything I could think of had already been done. What I ended up putting together actually seems to bear a pretty strong resemblance to The Matrix, at least based on what I know of the movie (I have never seen it), but this was entirely unintentional.

The result of this being a school project meant, obviously, that there was a deadline. As a result of that deadline, I ended up rushing through this story much faster than I meant to: there are massive sequences that are nothing but exposition, which if I ever go back and flesh out the story I will address, but there are parts of the story that I am proud of. In addition to that, I hope to expand on the story at some point - rather than walk away forever, the idea was that Rat would end up coming back to the lab and ending up in a mental universe somehow, trying to adapt, and hopefully bringing some resolution to the whole thing one way or another. I didn't really get that far.

So...any thoughts?
